1500 Perry Hall Customers Lose Power
A downed wire caused electrical problems in Perry Hall at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
About 1500 business and residential customers lost power at about 5:30 p.m. Monday in the central Perry Hall area, extending to Seven Courts Drive, a Baltimore Gas and Electric Company official confirmed.
It was caused by a downed wire and power will likely be restored by about 7:30 p.m., the official said.
Fire crews responded to a downed wire and sparks in the 9500 block of Belair Road also at about 5:30 p.m., a fire official said. BGE, however, was unable to confirm the connection.
There were at least two other power outages reported in Perry Hall and White Marsh over the weekend, which officials said were not weather related.

Shirley, they told me it was a downed wire from a branch. I wrote about it here: Weekend Outages: Perry Hall Homes, White Marsh Macy's - http://patch.com/A-wfD9

Everyday! Power was lost on Saturday morning at 6AM in the Hickoryhurst area, but nothing was said about that. BGE said we are aware and hope to have service restored by 10:00AM.

I am the one that called it in, we were eating dinner and all of sudden we heard a loud pop. My husband ran out side he thought it was our transformer outside of our house that was just replaced. Then we saw the wire on fire and smoking and we call the fire department,,

I live on seven courts and we lose power randomly at least twice a week now. It really is time to start making solar panels more powerful and more affordable, it's time to, you know, advance as a society and civilization. The sun is an unlimited power source and never goes out. BG&E can't seem to keep the power on for a whole week anymore. I'd love to just get off the grid completely, TBH. Solar, windmills, an artificial hydroelectric device in my yard. Oh wait, I need more money for that... lol

I was in Baskin-Bobbins on Sunday afternoon when the power went out. You could
only use cash and there was limited flavors of ice cream to choose. I asked one
worker if they were going to have a sale to get rid of some ice cream but no
response. Too bad.

Losing power for us, in our neighborhood, is a regular event. Even on the clearest, calmest days, the power will go out for no reason. On the Saturday before Easter, as I was busy baking, our power went out for about an hour.
I got our stats from BGE two years ago. Between March and August of that year we had 11 outages, and the blizzard and tropical storm outages that year weren't even included.
We've thought about investing in some solar panels, even just to cover those things that we would want to keep running during an outage. I think they would work better than the generator we now use, and probably be more cost efficient than a whole house generator. They would save us a little money throughout the year, and hopefully give some power to things when we have an outage. I'm just not sure it's worth the investment in a home that we want to sell.

Grace, my understanding is that if you have solar panels installed they are cut off during a power outage so no power can be sent out into the grid and injure the utility workers.

There are times when BGE has an outage planned, because of a known issue that they must repair. Anyone with a computer can plan ahead for some outages:
