$5K Loss in Schroeder Avenue Home Burglary

Police responded to the Perry Hall home on July 19.

Police are investigating a burglary that cost Perry Hall homeowners $5,360 in loss and damages.

Between noon and 12:45 p.m. on July 19, a sliding glass door was broken to a home in the 3800 block of Schroeder Avenue. The basement of the home was ransacked, and jewelry and antique coins were taken. Two dogs were placed inside of a bathroom, according to Officer Mark Dorsey of the Parkville precinct.

Loss of property and damages totaled about $5360, Dorsey said, adding that neighbors did not witness any suspects or suspicious activity.

Dorsey urged residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods immediately by calling 911.

From my observations over the last 8 months, most of the perps are home grown.
( Perry Hall, Parkville, Essex,etc., etc. )

Virtually all of these perps come in thru a back door. Sooo, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to buy a motion activated game camera ( deer camera ) and mount it
such that it has a view of my back door. Voila...you've got a picture of the perp.

It's extremely difficult to stop this sort of crime unless a police car is parked in front of your home. Another idea is to put a sign on your back door that says.......
" Motion Activated SHOTGUN is aimed at entry DOOR.If you value your life.......LEAVE "

I'm fairly new to the PH Patch, probably subscribed a month ago, but it seems these types of break-ins are fairly common. Is this the case and I just never heard of them not being subscribed to the Patch or has this sort of burglary just recently popped up to this frequent occurrance?

It's a good question as we really don't know, prior to the Patch we had didn't have quick information like Emily gets.

I wonder if insurance companies track this data. That may be a way to answer the question. Police stats are not helping.

the best...and worst....thing about the internet is it's invention of the 24 hour news cycle.

Answer? This has always been happening. Even 30 years ago, I suspect.

To my knowledge, the burglary frequency in Perry Hall started to really pick up around
Nov. 2011.To be honest, it's not just happening in Perry Hall. Crime is up everywhere.

Crime is definitely up in my area (Parkville) over the last six months or so. We were robbed; luckily we had very little of value to steal.

I doubt seriously anyone is riding the bus out here to do robberies. I mean, maybe, but why do people think that automatically? (I have seen that comment on nearly every burglary story I read here.) The suburbs are home to plenty of folks looking for instant gratification, especially drug addicts who need a bit of fast cash. Wake up, people. The suburbs are not crime-free, and the city is NOT the incubator for thieves.

Maybe they took the light rail to Hunt Valley (to throw authorities off their trail), then took a bus to Perry Hall? Do they actually have buses in Hunt Valley?

Went to Hunt Valley on light rail, stole a car, drove to Reisterstown, took Metro to Charles Street, took a bus to White Marsh, stole a bike, biked to PH shopping center, stole a skateboard and went to Schroeder Ave. how the heck they got away, who knows?

The bus line is not the cause of all crime. However, wherever public transportation is available the crime rates in and to these locations do increase.

So if there is a correlation there is no cause/effect relationship? Ever?
