Before there was Sneaks the Cat, another four-legged friend tried to encourage kids to squeeze more reading into their summers—his name was Rudy the Raccoon.

If you want proof, look no further than the White Marsh branch library at 8133 Sandpiper Circle. Since June 11, a 60-foot by 2.5-foot quilt has lined the inside of the library. It was constructed from 23 past Summer Reading Club T-shirts, as well as the backs of six T-shirts

"It's just a really interesting retrospective," said White Marsh branch manager Dave LaPenotiere. "It's interesting to see it all laid out."

LaPenotiere said the project, which involved several hours of labor, belongs entirely to Sue Koenig.

Koenig donated the quilt to While Marsh while working as the media specialist at Joppa View Elementary. Since retiring last year, she has begun working at the Perry Hall library branch.

Check out photos of the quilt in the media gallery and share your memories from past Summer Reading Clubs in the comments.
