Lynn Mullahey, Baltimore County Fire Director, explained the scene during Thursday's fire at Chapel Manor Apartments.

UPDATE (11:07 p.m.)—Fire caused the roof to collapse on a Chapel Village condominium complex in Perry Hall Thursday night, displacing more than a dozen residents.

Flames consumed the roof of the complex at 12 Juliet Lane by the time emergency units arrived at about 8 p.m. All residents from 12 impacted apartment units had evacuated themselves and were waiting outside, said Lynn Mullahey, a Baltimore County Fire Department spokeswoman.

Firefighters searched the building and found no additional residents inside. No firefighters or residents were injured during the evacuation and search, Mullahey said.

"We have 12 units that have been evacuated and 12 groups of residents are now trying to find other places to live for the evening," she said.

The Long Green Volunteer Fire Company, White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, as well as professional units from Fullerton, Perry Hall and Parkville responded to the blaze.

Red Cross representatives and the Baltimore County Central Alarmers also assisted victims and firefighters.

They do not have any lightning rods on the tops of the buildings! This is the 3rd building to be struck and burn.

I also recall that this is the 3rd lightening-related fire there. Seems to me corrective measures should have been taken after the second one.

I love the Perry Hall Patch. I heard all the fire engines last night and wondered what was happening. We really had some storms last night. I had shown property and got stuck in the first one just after 4:00. It was not fun driving in the storm. I pray that all the people and pets are okay. I have sold some of these units but I don't remember the building numbers.

There was some serious lightning last night. I was in my car at Joppa/Perring Pkwy at about 6pm last night, and a lightning strike hit something (transformer?) that was so loud, it literally shook my car.

Another fire at Juliet Lane condos, and after they installed new lightning rods. Unbelievable...

I remember the old saying "Lightning never strikes twice." Apparently, it does and then some. We are all glad no one was hurt. Our thoughts and prayers are for the victims. Keep in mind this can happen to anyone. Everyone should secure special items in fireproof safes and have a home evacuation plan.
