APG: Booms Around Perry Hall Ongoing Until Dec. 21

Detonation testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground could create noise between Dec. 17 and Dec. 21.

Perry Hall residents may continue to hear loud booms between Dec. 17 and Dec. 21, according to an announcement from the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground

Over the past month, the center has conducted large detonations.

According to a statement from the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, "detonations are likely to generate sound and/or vibration" outside APG gates. In the event of unfavorable weather conditions, the testing may be rescheduled.

ATEC "provides test and test support services" for military and contract organizations, according to the statement. Anyone with questions may contact 410-278-1147 or 800-688-8705.

Noise caused by similar testing caused concern among community members on Nov. 19. Several residents reported on Patch and on Facebook that the sounds had upset pets and shaken homes in the Perry Hall area.

The Patch article on the booms was featured by the Strange Sounds blog that focuses on "weird sounds, earth groaning, sounds of apocalypse around the world."
