Bone Marrow Drive at St. Joseph Parish
The event on Wednesday will support Fallston teen Xavia Pirozzi.
A bone marrow drive to benefit a Fallston teen is planned for 3:30 p.m.-8 p.m. on Dec. 21 at St. Joseph Parish, 8420 Belair Road in Fullerton.
Those between 18 and 60 years old may attend, register and have their mouths swabbed to find out if they are a match for Xavia Pirozzi, a John Carroll School sophomore in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Those who register may also be matched with others in need through the Ryan Foundation, which is sponsoring the event.
A children's area will also be available during the drive, with materials to make Christmas cards for Pirozzi while she is in the hospital.
Pirozzi received a heart transplant while in the fifth grade and recently developed lymphoma. Her treatment requires a bone marrow transplant, according to event organizer Amy Meyerl.
Pirozzi and her family are parishioners at the church, and she and her siblings attended St. Joseph School.
"The family has a special place for all of us," Meyerl said.
