Curbs, Gutters, Sidewalks Coming to Cowenton, Marks Says
Improvements are planned between Morning Dove Way and Honeybrook Way in Perry Hall.
Improvements are planned for Cowenton Avenue in Perry Hall, County Councilman David Marks announced on Monday.
Curbs, gutters, and sidewalks are slated for a 300-foot stretch of Cowenton, between Morning Dove Way and Honeybrook Way, near Cowenton Ridge Park, Marks stated in a email to constituents.
Weather permitting, the $250,000 project could begin late summer and continue into early fall. Marks thanked County Executive Kevin Kamenetz for supporting the project and urged "patience from drivers and residents during construction."

I will see what I can do. I am trying to get many smaller streets - as well as major corridors - addressed over the next two years.

Thanks Councilman Marks-you are really doing a lot for this area!
Please, please, please fix the sidewalks on the west side of Belair Road from Cedarside up to Forge Road. There is a section next to the old library where the handicap ramp is 2 inches below the gutter area, making it a severe tripping hazard for anyone walking north on Belair. (have done multiple face plants into the street there in the past while running). Also the 4" rise in the sidewalk in front of Rite Aid at Forge-very dangerous!

Mr. Marks,
Please consider the sidewalks on the other side of Cowenton Ridge Park between Catron and the park. It would be a shame to miss the opportunity to fix both sections at the same time.

I will do my best. I suspect there will be some substantial resurfacing in the Perry Hall area over the next two years as well.

Councilman Marks,
I hope your list of projects includes Joppa Rd. at Honeygo - especially the west side. There is lots of foot traffic there with no pedestrian access (sidewalk) along Joppa Rd.

I live at Darnall and Dana Vista. We have a small section of curb (maybe 10') on the Darnall side and another section on the Dana Vista side. There is a storm drain on the Dana Vista side and the gutter is deteriorating. Who do I call to have it repaired/replaced? Why do certain areas have curbs and others don't? I have discovered over the years that people assume because we don't have curbs, it's okay to drive and park on our grass (including police cars). And because we are at the bottom a hill, the edges of the yard are always wet from runoff so the vehicles leave ruts when they drive/park there.

Yes! Love that sidewalks are being repaired but attention needs to be given to roads with no pedestrian access. Chapel is a death trap!

Not only for pedestrians - some portions of Chapel Rd. are very narrow with no curbs, and drainage ditches - very challenging for two cars passing in opposite directions.

Halbert Ave off of Belair Rd across from the old Library - no sidewalks, no curbs, no storm drains. Road is about 100 yards long, and deteriorating badly with the sides of the road eroding away with storm water.

I didn't mean to complain about my deteriorating gutter when so many other areas don't have sidewalks for saftey. Who or what determines whether or not an area gets gutters and sidewalks?
I'm sure at one point in time Perry Hall was considered a rural area but let's face it, it hasn't been rural for ages. Every new development gets gutters and sidewalks. What about all of the older areas that need them?

in reply to SLI the reason behind that is because the county requires the developer to put them in before he get his plan approved.

I live on Cowenton Ave , right where the side walk begins. Very glad to here about the firm dates. So we can walk our children to the park. I hope in the next round, Panorama to Joppas X Cowenton Circle roads will be widened. I heard that some unserground drinage work is a pre requisite. Mr Marks thanks again.
