UPDATE: Fire Severely Damages Sunshine Avenue Home in Kingsville
Firefighters responded to a fire on the 7000 block of Sunshine Avenue Thursday morning.
UPDATE (11:27 a.m.)—A fire severely damaged a house Thursday morning along the 7000 block of Sunshine Avenue in Kingsville. Sunshine Avenue remained closed at the First Baptist Church of Kingsville, north of Kingswood Lane, as of 11:15 a.m.
The fire began at about 9:45 a.m., within a mile of Kingsville Elementary School. The home's only occupant escaped without injury, said Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company Chief Mike Berna.
Firefighters contained the flames by 10:30 a.m. and fire investigators remained on the scene after 11:15 a.m., Berna said. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Marcia Kuklane watched as firefighters tossed charred items from one of the home's windows. Her 69-year-old mother had lived in the house for more than 30 years, she said.
"We just have to figure out where she's going to go. We're anxious to see what we can salvage." Kuklane said.
She and her siblings all live in Kingsville, she said.
"My dad recently passed away. ... It was nice that she still had her independence," Kuklane added. "This is just horrible."

Very sad story. The good news is the owner was able to escape without injury . It could have been another tragic fire resulting in death. God Was watching over the Owner and spared her life.
