Perry Hall High School's football team lost to the Parrots Friday night, ending a season of ups, downs and turnarounds. The top-seeded Baltimore City champion Baltimore Polytechnic Institute defeated the fourth seed Gators, 50-21, in the Class 4A North playoffs.
Perry Hall advanced to the postseason after Westminster—which had been the fourth seed—was forced to forfeit its Oct. 28 57-7 victory over Manchester Valley, when it was revealed the Owls inadvertently used an ineligible player.
Perry Hall won several big games this season, including a 17-14 Homecoming victory over 2010 Class 3A state finalist Franklin and a 21-19 season-opening win over St. Paul’s. The Gators’ only other defeat was a 32-23 setback to Baltimore County champion Catonsville (10-0).
Friday’s game was expected to be especially meaningful for Perry Hall coach Keith Robinson. He was an assistant under Poly coach Roger Wrenn while both were at Patterson. Wrenn, a legendary figure in Baltimore high school sports, is set to retire after a 40-year coaching career that includes a 284-113-2 record.
