Gunpowder Falls State Park Hiking Into 2013

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is hosting "First Day Hikes" across the state.

Looking to get a healthy start on the new year?

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is hosting several First Day Hikes across the state on Jan. 1, 2013—including one in the Perry Hall and Kingsville area.

Starting at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day, participants will gather at the parking lot outlet for the Gunpowder Falls State Park at 10000 Belair Rd. The two-mile guided hike may include a visit to sawmill ruins or the Pot Rocks geological formation.

"Participants are asked to wear clothes and shoes appropriate for the weather (rain, snow or shine), and bring water for drinking, and a camera (optional). Sturdy footwear is recommended," according to the MDNR.

Dogs on a leash may also attend.

The guided hike is free but reservations must be made with the park in advance by calling 410-592-2897.

See the Patch event listing for more details.

"Dogs on a lease may also attend." Does this mean dogs that are owned are not allowed?
