About 42.5 million Americans are expected to hit the roads this week for Thanksgiving, representing a 4 percent increase in automobile traffic from last year, AAA predicts.
For those of you lucky enough to start your holiday travels today, you may avoid a bumper-to-bumper skid down Interstate 95. If you plan on traveling Wednesday after work, we send our condolences.

1) traffic.com - I configure routes so I can always see what the load looks like
2) If I'm in the car, google maps via my android phone allows for a 'traffic' layer to google maps, which updates in virtually real time.
I remember when I got XM radio a few years go the traffic report channels (24/7) were a key reason/benefit. Now? Completely outdated.

XM traffic is useless. I'll be sitting dead still on 895 for 15 minutes, put it on XM and hear "clear sailing at both tunnels." Oh brother.
I use the INRIX traffic app on my iPhone, which offers very accurate details as well. Seems a little more accurate than the Google map overlay.
