Journal Entries Result in Eight Burglary Charges

Police say a 22-year-old Lutherville woman wrote about the Parkville and Cockeysville homes she allegedly burglarized.

For some, a journal is a place to keep their secrets but one Lutherville woman's journal entries resulted in eight burglary charges.

Emily Kearns, 22, of the unit block of Elphin Court, is charged with a series of nine burglaries that span areas in both Cockeysville and Parkville precincts.

Kearns was arrested on Dec. 4 when detectives, who were keeping her under surveillance, saw her break into a home in the unit block of Country Club Lane and attempt to break into a home in the unit block of Greentree Drive in the Phoenix area, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathleen Batton.

After her arrest, detectives recovered a journal the woman allegedly kept which was used as part of the investigation that tied her to six other burglaries in Parkville and Cockeysville precincts, Batton said.

On December 14, Kearns was charged with break-ins at residences in the following areas:

  • 17500 block of Bushland Road in Parkton
  • 4300 block of Long Green Road in Glen Arm
  • 13800 block of East Devonfield Drive in Baldwin
  • 4900 block of Bart Allen Lane
  • 4200 block of Ravenhurt Circle
  • 13600 block of Devonfield Drive

A search of online court records shows that Kearns was released from the Baltimore County Detention Center on Dec. 14 after posting a total of $200,000 bond.

She is a prime reason why we need to start a Burgler / Thief Registry , as most of the time they get a slap on the wrist and released to recommit their crimes over and over. And it would be nice to know who these people are , for when we see them we could watch them real good and protect our property.

That's a pretty haggard 22 year old. Hopefully she'll do a little time and get her life together, then maybe she can write a book about being a reformed cat burglar.

Thanks to her stupidity, we now know who was breaking into the houses in our community

You know, she probably would have gotten away with being recognized if she had worn a paper bag over her head.

No one said that the light rail is THE sole cause of crime in the surrounding areas, they say that it significantly increased the crime rate. Also, with the buses, I don't recall attempted carjackings at Five Guys or in that shopping center before the bus.

The sad thing is that she's from a good, decent family and grew up in a good neighborhood. You don't have to be poor to go wrong.

Anybody convicted of committing a crime should not be allowed to make money by writing a book about it.

I'm ashamed to have her in my family, especially since we were one of her victims and she stole some very sentimental items that were handed down to me from my Grandmother. She has yet to reach out to us to apologize so clearly she is not remorseful. Sad to say, but she deserves to serve time in jail and if she doesn't, then it's clear that our justice system needs a lot of improvements!!

Heroin. These crimes are the result of the disease of addiction.

Wow I saw this and my jaw dropped. I know her , she used to be one of the sweetest girls ever and very trustworthy. I agree with phaelisker addiction is the problem although I know many addicts who wouldn't stoop to this level . The fact that she kept a journal is not only incredibly stupid but it makes it seem like she is proud of what she did. Maybe this will be the wake up call she needs to get her life together. Change is possible so hopefully she will

Other Tim, you fail to realize apparently that who is posting is a critical part of what is posted. Posters have histories and they have long-standing disagreements based on things posted in the past. If you do not have a history, it may be because you have posted very little or posted things that were benign or easily ignored.

For example, if a serious judge says, "Take that out of here!" it might mean that somebody is getting locked up. On the other hand if some greasy twerp says, "Get that out of here!" you may laugh or pinch his face and slap him. See the difference? Who the speaker is makes a difference and in online forums, there is so little information to base responses on that what one has posted in the past makes a difference in terms of how subsequent posts are received.
