Rani Merryman—a resident of Seven Courts in Perry Hall, former candidate for Maryland delegate and stay-at-home mom—submitted the following as a letter to the editor.
Dear Editor,
As I watch the presidential election unfold I think of the last four years with President Obama. I hear all of the comparisons, the blame of the former president, the spin media outlets put on facts and the rhetoric the campaigns use to sway voters.
In deciding who I will be voting for, there are some key factors I will use. You often hear, if you vote for Romney, you will be getting four more years of Bush. This is like saying, if Hillary Clinton had been elected she would have governed in the exact same manner as President Obama. The same can be said when Republicans champion Romney by saying how good the Reagan years were or as silly as saying that simply based on party affiliation alone, President Clinton was the same as President Jimmy Carter.
The key factor that stands out for me is the lack of leadership our current president exhibits. This is a man who promised unity, yet he can't seem to unite the parties enough to accomplish even the most fundamental of tasks—for three years, we have not been able to pass a budget. You cannot say the same for President Clinton. He worked not only with Congress-members to obtain bipartisan support, but also included people such as former Speaker Newt Gingrich to provide crucial assistance in forming the plan to right the country. You can saddle President G.W. Bush with many things, but he also worked hard to maintain a shared responsibility among both parties. We can review the past administrations of most Presidents and you will find this to be a resounding truth. Leaders are able to draw people together for the common good. While President Obama may be a good “doer” of things, time and again he has failed on this major responsibility of a being a good leader. I do not know if it is indecision that has been the cause or simply inexperience.
In tackling some of the pressing issues we face, economically, in domestic affairs, and regarding foreign policy one thing rings true. We will need a leader who can not only unite the two major parties but also show respect for the growing independent, libertarian and tea party members who deserve consideration if we hope to find solutions that will work long term for our nation. I think you would be hard pressed to find any voter who wholly agrees with their party's platform; Likewise, you will not find legislation, when passed by mere portions of only one party of our electorate, that is worthy of continuing our nation's history of freedom and democracy.
For this reason, former Governor Romney will get my vote this year. For the title of Leader of the Free World, often used to describe the office of the President of the United States, we need a proven leader. It is not The Doer of the Free World, The Dictator of the Free World, The King of the Free World, but rather the Leader.

It is easy for the Perry Hall neighbor to say the President failed or lacked leadership but when your Republican led Congress said from the beginning that their main goal was to make him a one time President, what did she expect. No President has the power to make critical changes without its Congress. Cooperation is key, unfortunately you can't just fire people from the White House as you can in the private sector.

I'll address just one part of your comment - Succession of policy.
Mitt Romney has one term as a governor - all of his other experience is in the private sector. That is not to condemn him, but he does not have many public sector connections from his career. If you look at his staff of advisers, there are very many who served GW Bush in similar capacities. So he doesn't have the chops himself (okay), but who will he get his advice from? And without the personal experience, how will he know what to follow and what to not follow? Since he is tight-lipped on policy and wants us to elect him first, that is one reason why many see his administration as a continuation of Bush.

So basically, the idea here is that because Obama couldn't fix a decade + of Republican mess making in four years time, he should be fired and replaced by....another Republican.
Brilliant.

@ Zee, for two years he and his party had filibuster-proof control of Congress. That is why we are in so much trouble. The notion that the Republicans were able to stop anything is just another lie.

@ Tim: You have no clue. Under Bush we saw a record 53 months in a row of job creation. In 2006, when the democrats took over Congress, the economy was doing well. The catalyst for the collapse was the housing market crash which was the direct result of democrat corruption. If not for the democrats forcing banks to make bad loans, starting with Carter's "Community Reinvestment act" which was accelerated by Clinton and Janet Reno, the collapse would never have happened. No less than 4 times Bush and the Republicans tried to increase oversight of Fannie and Freddie and the democrats blocked all those efforts. McCain said "I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole." The democrats said Fannie and Freddie were fine. Then they collapsed and brought down the entire economy. Who created the mess?

great letter. I completely agree. I think when people are really educated on the actual facts, they tend to agree as well. Sometimes its not about having a 'cool, hip' president, but a leader who has been proven before. Sometimes, no ones going to agree 100% with either side, or they may like some aspects of one and the other...but sometimes its about the greater good. The more experiance.the lesser of two evils.

"Mitch McConnell said in October 2010 that his party's primary goal in the next Congress was to make Obama a one-term president." It is difficult to fault President Obama for failing to achieve bipartisanship given the Republicans stated goal to thwart his legislative agenda to ensure he was not re-elected. They even refused to bring the President's American Job Act to the floor for a vote. This legislation would have cut taxes for small businesses, prevent 280,000 teacher layoffs and keep firefighters and police on the job, cutting payroll taxes in half for 160 million American workers, investment in rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges putting millions back to work. The Republicans refused to even vote on this important legislation because they don't want President Obama to succeed regardless what this means to middle class Americans and the economy. The policies of the previous Republican administration almost destroyed the economy and yet Romney has promised to not only return to those policies but to cut taxes even further on the wealthy and raise middle class taxes. President Obama has my vote to be the Leader of the Free World for four more years. He will continue the economic recovery. Remember, it took 8 years to push the economy to the edge of collapse. It will take longer than four years to completely repair it. The Romney/Ryan plan will take us over the edge of economic collapse.

@ Sarah Lawrence: I guess you work for Obama? That is the only way you could be so wrong. As stated before, Obama and his party had filibuster-proof control of Congress for two full years. The republicans could not have stopped anything. The democrats and Obama did everything they wanted to and that is exactly why we are in so much trouble. What they pushed through was the largest increase in the deficit and debt in the nation's history. A larger increase than all previous Presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton combined. As a direct result, the US saw it's credit rating reduced for the first time in history, which massively increases the interest on the national debt. Obama said Bush was "unpatriotic" for increasing the debt by $4 trillion over 8 years. Then he increased it by $6 trillion in less than half the time. The laughably titled "American Jobs Act" was not a jobs bill at all. It was another spending bill like the previous failed stimulus packages and was such a disaster that even the democrat-controlled Senate voted it down. Claiming that the Republicans blocked it is simply not true. Continued...

Steve, I have no citings on weapons labs or chemical artillery shells so I can't discuss that either way, so if you can show me?
My point, however, was mainly that both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were conducted by Bush off the Budget, and contributed greatly to the National Debt. Perhaps the first year they qualify as an emergency, but they should not have stayed "hidden" all that time. And then, to give tax cuts at the same time? Sad and irresponsible.
Steve

@ Sarah: On the other hand, the Republican-controlled House has passed numerous jobs bills and budgets with democrat support, only to have Harry Reid refuse to let them even come up for a vote in the Senate. The Senate which is required by law to pass an annual budget and has not done so for approaching four years. Obama proposed one budget and it was such an unparalleled disaster that the democrat-controlled Senate voted it down 99-0.
You are also spreading lies about Romney. He promised to raise taxes on the middle class? Wrong. Not even Obama has accused him of that because it is a ridiculous lie. You know who has increased taxes on the middle class? Obama and the democrats. Obamacare, which was shoved down the throats of Americans even though the vast majority of them opposed it, is the largest tax increase in the history of the world, and right in the middle of the worst recession since the depression. And this after Obama himself said that "You never want to raise taxes during a recession".
Steve

@ Sarah: As I made clear above, it was the democrats and their corruption of the housing market that caused the economic collapse. I was in the business and we saw it coming years earlier too. The economy and jobs were fine until the democrats took over Congress and started wildly increasing spending, which was already too high. Obama will continue the recovery? What recovery? The one that has seen gas prices go from $1.89/gallon to $3.80/gallon? The one that has seen unemployment go from just over 5% to nearly 15%? Yes, 15%. The 8% number does not include the millions of people who have given up looking for work. it is a lie. The one that has seen our credit rating reduced for the first time ever? The one that saw the debt go from $10 trillion to $16 trillion? What recovery?

I wish we had more room so I could debunk all the lies from Steve and Mort. As it is, I'll just have to say as much as I want President Obama to win for the good of the country, it would be nice to be able to say, "I told you so." to all of the misguided Republicans who voted for Romney when he raises taxes on the middle class to pay for his tax cuts on the wealthy. But I will say two things - when Democrats had control of both Houses, they passed the Affordable Care Act which will cut the deficit and is helping millions of people already. Second, gas prices are determined by the price of crude oil which is sold on a global market. The President has no influence on these markets. President Obama has increased domestic oil drilling significantly but even oil drilled in the US is sold on the global market. It's easy to blame the President for high oil prices but this is one issue he has no control over. At the end of the day, Republicans have a different version of truth and reality than Democrats, shaped in large part by the pervasive conservative media, i.e. Fox, Limbaugh, etc. Until we find common ground and work together, I worry about the future of the country. So, I will vote for President Obama with the conviction he is the best person for the job. And, no, I don't work for the Democrats. I'm just a lone Democrat in a Republican area who's tired of the lies and misinformation I hear from friends and neighbors everyday.

@ Sarah: Yes, you definitely work for Obama because you couldn't find the truth with a divining rod and GPS. Some of your claims make me laugh out loud. Obamacare is going to massively increase both the deficit and the cost of health care. This fact is acknowledged by every source from the CBO to private medical advisers. Gas prices are determined by far more than crude prices and claiming that Obama has increased domestic oil drilling significantly is delusional. Drilling under his control has come to a virtual standstill. The only increases have been on private land outside his control. His illegal drilling ban not only cost thousands of jobs in the gulf region, but it significantly reduced our production capacity in the gulf. More on why in a minute. Presidents have a huge ability to influence prices, When they rose under Bush, his mere threat to greatly increase domestic drilling drove the price down by half. OPEC is scared to death that we will stop letting the democrats block domestic production and increase our energy independence.
Steve
2:29 pm on Saturday, September 8, 2012
Obama's illegal drilling ban (it was ruled illegal by 2 separate federal courts and he did it anyway) was for a reason. From the top: A report was released several months before the disaster detailing rigs which presented a safety risk. Deepwater Hoirizon was on that list. The Obama administration gave BP as pass on all their rigs and removed them from the version of the report that was made public. May have something to so with Obama getting more money from BP than any other politician. He then did nothing, he didn't even talk about the disaster, for almost three weeks. Finally he instituted his illegal ban citing the supposed danger of drilling at such great depths. These depths are the result of democrat restrictions put in place to appease their special interest contributors. Continued....
Steve
2:34 pm on Saturday, September 8, 2012
Why ban drilling? Because inactive rigs do not just sit. they are leased to new operators. George Soros, the most evil living human and Obama's puppet master, invested $900 billion in Petrobras, Brazil's state-run oil company. Less than a week later Obama promised Petrobras $2 billion of our money to help them drill at depths nearly twice that which he said was unsafe for us to drill at. When our rigs went down because of his illegal ban, guess who took possession of those rigs. Wait for it....Petrobras!!! What a coincidence. Obama has blocked all attempts at increasing our energy independence. The Pentagon rightly sees our dependence on untrustworthy "allies" in the Middle East as our number one national security threat. Romney's energy plan for North America will end that dependence and that threat.

Beyond all the other arguments, Romney just cannot be trusted. He has supported virtually every position on virtually every issue. I won't list them here - they are everywhere on the Web.
In his career at Bain Capital, decisions were pretty much made based on the money - the dollar ruled the policy. So he could change his position as long as the outcome produced the dollars. That is not the case for the POTUS, and I don't want such a mercenary running our country.

Hal, do you understand venture capital at all? Apparently not. Bain capital, and other venture capital companies, are contacted by companies that are on the verge of bankruptcy or who need help expanding. They ask companies like Bain to invest in them and rescue them. In the vast majority of cases they were successful. They took a one store office supply company and turned it into Staples. They rescued or built AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino's Pizza, Dunkin' Donuts, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America, Sealy, The Sports Authority, Toys "R" Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel into the thriving businesses they are today. They created tens of thousands of jobs. The despicable ad Obama ran about the woman with cancer was not only a lie, but it was after Romney left and one of Obama's top donation bundlers was running Bain. Sure, we are better off with Obama, who has never held a real job, just about never told the truth, concealed his entire past, and spoken all through his life about his disdain for America while associating with pretty much no one who wasn't a marxist. That is much better than a successful business man.

My point is that Romney's actions and decisions have been driven by the dollar for so long that he likely can't work any other way - and that does not make him qualified to be the POTUS.

As far as tax cuts go, they have worked to stimulate sagging economies every time they have been tried. Most notably when J.F.K. did it, when Reagan did it, and when GWB did it. You democrats fall for the lie that they have to be "paid for". Your politicians see it that way because they see the revenue as their money and can't stand giving up a penny, but they ignore history. Every time across the board tax cuts have been implemented, revenue to the government has increased because of the huge boost in the economy. Revenue to the federal government from the implementation of the Reagan tax cuts to the end of his administration had just about doubled. Unfortunately, the democrat-controlled Congress, true to form, spent every penny of the increase and more.

Hal, what do you think made all the mortgage securities with credit default swaps necessary? Lenders were sitting on too many bad loans that the democrats forced them to make and they were trying to stay in business. That is the whole point. I'll admit, I had insight into this since I was in the mortgage business, but you don't need insight to understand it. It is very simple. My company saw the danger and avoided it by avoiding subprime altogether. All we did was VA loans for veterans. We avoided the discrimination lawsuits filed by the Clinton justice department against any lender who did subprime but tried to act responsibly and not grant loans to people who could not afford them. BTW, Obama represented ACORN (you know, the corrupt group he denies any connection with in spite of the numerous videos of him addressing them and talking about how their goals are his goals) in one such suit against Citibank.

I would dispute the cause, since the Repubs are ALWAYS the party pushing for deregulation. Perhaps Clinton made a mistake in allowing some of the deregulation, but that still doesn't "make mortgage securities with credit default swaps" NECESSARY. In any case, I'll repeat: Lending institutions and securities firms have a responsibilty to understand and manage their risk, and they clearly did not do that. Kudos to your firm for avoiding it, but money and unchecked greed are always tempting incentives to misbehave.

Speaking of foreign papers, they have been all over the massive pack of lies regarding the Bin Laden raid. Obama cancelled missions targeting Bin Laden three times. When he was approached about this mission he balked, would not render a decision, and went to play golf AGAIN. Obama did not give the order and was not involved in any way, other than being an obstacle. Even Obama-loving Time magazine reported on the decision being made by Leon Panetta to give all control over going or not going to Admiral McRaven, commander of the Seals. Once the mission was underway and they had verified Bin Laden's presence, Obama had to be fetched form the golf course so he could be there to watch the mission unfold. If you look at the famous (or infamous) Situation Room photo, you see Obama sitting there, still in his white golf shirt, hastily covered up by a jacket. Most of the press over here is also ignoring the fact that the Pentagon informed Obama that they had recovered Bin Laden's computer and had information on the location of nearly 30 top Al Qeada leaders and told him they needed at least 24 hours before the mission was made public to take these leaders out. Obama was on TV the next morning bragging about how "he" had gotten Bin Laden. As a result, all of those terrorist leaders knew they were in danger and they all escaped.

If it was factual (or even partially), the right-leaning press in the USA would have pounced on it in a New York minute. After all, Rupert Murdoch owns the British press.Anyone who believes what they see from either side in a campaign ad is certainly naive - why do you think fact-checking became an industry? Both sides do the spin game. Just take one item in Paul Ryan's acceptance speech - the Simpson-Bowles comment. Yes, everything he said was factually true, but he withheld information that most people would consider important: he was on the commission, and he voted against their findings.
Politics in this country is a rough sport. Personally, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with people (on both sides) lying and spinning and then governing - but right now it's the only game in town.

In a related story just out this week, remember how the Seal Team that conducted the raid lost most of it's members when a helicopter was shot down not long after the mission? The parents of some of those Seals have gotten together with some military officials and found out the details of that disaster. The helicopter was a CH-54 Chinook. These are large, slow helicopters. Because of Obama's treasonous rules of engagement, the Army was not allowed to shell the area the helicopter was going in to ahead of the mission in order to secure the landing zone because they could not guarantee that there were no non-terroists there. As a result, the helicopter was shot down. Even worse, those same rules of engagement prevented the Army from firing on the terrorists who launched the RPG-7 that shot the Seals down because they were in a house and Obama's rules prevent firing on a house unless it is know that there are no other people in there. Disgrace does not even begin to cover Obama's responsibility for the deaths of those men and those parents are not going to let this go. Our media will have to cover it eventually and when they do, Obama is even more done than he is now. He should be brought up on charges.

Sarah, you must never get out. The majority of the country sees the world the way I do because they are paying attention to more than Rachel Maddow. There are very few people left who don't care about the country or their own families enough to find the truth and face it. Do some actual research. Read Obama's own books. Watch videos of what he has said through the years. My "conspiracy theories and wild, wholly untrue accusations" are based on nothing other than what Obama has said and done and are 100% provable fact.

Hal, I was no big fan of going into Iraq either. It didn't have anything to do with Bush "nuzzling up to his father". That is just silly. From 1997 on, all of the major democrat players: Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Rockfeller, and others said the exact same things about Saddam and his WMD efforts as Bush did. I did see one defense analyst put forward an interesting theory that I have not hear before. Everyone knew that Iran was going to be a problem before long. Having control of both Iraq and Afghanistan would put us in the position of having Iran nearly completely surrounded and isolated. I wonder if that really did play a role? I would hope not, essentially conquering two countries for ulterior motives, but more heinous things have happened.

Hal, you are right about securities firms having moral and ethical responsibilities, but they were given a legislative green light for what they did. There are people on both sides of the aisle responsible for that green light. Banks that had been forced to make bad loans were on the verge of Bankruptcy and something had to be done to cover everyone's butts (as usual). It is indisputable that Bush and the republicans tried several times to increase oversight of Fannie and Freddie and that they were blocked in those efforts by the democrats, led by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Blocking those oversight changes are what led directly to Fannie and Freddie failing and the housing crash that was the catalyst for the entire economic collapse. It is all a matter of public record and there are numerous videos of the debates on the floor.

Hal, you place too much faith in the stones of the "right-leaning media". There have been plenty of valid reasons to not only criticize, but to impeach Obama that Fox News has not bothered to speak of. Most recently, Obama's illegal Executive order granting amnesty and job permits to illegal aliens. Something that a short time before he said himself that he would not do because he did not have the legal authority to do so. When he announced that we saw an exceedingly rare glimpse of mainstream media stones when a reporter (I believe from ABC) yelled out "What about all the Americans who can't find work" at the prospect of giving illegal aliens access to jobs.

And Hal, the helicopter incident is not a conspiracy theory. Some of the involved parents and their sources spoke in public about it for the first time last week. Hal, I tried your link about the Bush tax cuts but it didn't work. If you want to see the positive effect of their passage just do some research into federal government tax revenue by year. The Bush tax cuts were instituted in two parts. The first in 2001 and the second in 2003. Tax revenue to the federal government from 2003 on was as follows: 2003 - $1.782 trillion, 2004 - $1.880 trillion, 2005 - $2.154 trillion, 2006 - $2.406 trillion. Just as with every across the board tax cuts in history, tax revenue to the government grew substantially. In a related vein, revenues during the first two years of Clinton's administration remained just below $1.1 trillion, but after the republicans took over Congress in 1994 it grew steadily to 1.824 trillion by the end of Clinton's term. Bill did some things right after the republicans took over. Welfare reform, etc. He had to be dragged kicking and screaming to most of them but he did sign them.

Today we have more and very unfortunate evidence of the result of having a President who is not only completely incompetent, but who has alienated our allies and supported the enemy. The Israeli Prime Minister's speech makes clear their complete distrust of our leadership. This situation with Iran is completely Obama's fault. When there was a true uprising for freedom in Iran he ignored it and continued to support their radical terrorist leaders and now there is a very real chance for war. But, when the terrorists in the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to take over in Egypt and Libya, he jumped at the chance to support them, and now our Ambassador and other Americans are dead in Libya. And not only has he promised billions of our dollars in support of this terrorist organization, and they are recognized as such by our government, but he has hosted them in the White House and had security protocol ignored in order to facilitate the presence there of a wanted terrorist without his being arrested. This is surreal. If someone wrote this as a fictional story, that the US would have a President who has not only led his own country to economic ruin, but done more damage to foreign security than any other leader in history, it would have been branded as something too damaging to be realistic. And yet it is really happening.

Steve - war with Iran is not certain, and the Israeli government's own opinions of our relationship with Israel varies among their leaders. This is really back-burner news.
The real foreign policy news of the day is the "shoot from the hip" statement from Romney on the Libyan situation. Romney shows yet again that he is a buffoon in the foreign relations arena, and thoroughly unfit to serve as president. The American people are seeing this more and more, and it's more likely than ever Romney will spend January 2013 making a tour of his existing houses, not adding 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to the list. Probably a good idea to prep yourself for it.

War with Iran should be avoided at all costs save for a direct attack on Israel. Even then, let Israel defend itself. Iran is just rattling Israel's chain. Why? Because it works.
Clearly, many people haven't learned their lessons - both in loss of life and the TRILLIONS we've wasted in the middle east already. These are the same people who want our government budgets to become balanced again. Hypocrites.
You want to talk foreign policy? Let's talk about how Romney's already screwing up US/Russian relations.
First of all, the genius seems to think Russia's our #1 geopolitical foe. News flash Mitt: It's not 1984 anymore.
Now, we've got Putin using Romney's words against our country "See, we were right to find the US missile defense shield in Europe". Nice work Mitt. Napalming things and he's not even in office yet.
Second of all, he seems to side with Netyanhu and his crazy right wing views, whereas most of Israel itself does not. Even the majority of Israel's military doesn't believe in a proactive strike against Iran last I've heard (a couple days ago).
I personally believe our President's overall foreign policy has been a strong point. There's a good reason Republicans haven't been attacking it much. Outside of bringing up the "He isn't calling Jerusalem the capital city" and "oh, he's ignoring Netyanhu" they really have nothing.

Steve

Hal, sometimes it seems like you are trying to make sense. Other times, like now, you seem like a mindless Obamabot like Sarah. War between Israel and Iran is extremely likely according to every analyst who has spoken. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu requested a meeting with Obama to discuss the imminent war with Iran and was told that Obama doesn't have the time. BUT, the same day, Obama announces that he does have time to appear on Letterman. And you support this dangerous nitwit. At least his administration apologized to the people who attacked our embassies and killed our people. No, they really did. Before he made his big bogus speech about seeking justice, they apologized for the movie that has enraged "the religion of peace" even though that was not the reason for the attacks, which had been planned for some time to be on 9/11.
Romney's statement was exactly what heeded to be said. It was what a leader says. It was what an AMERICAN leader says. If you can look at Obama's actions over the last two days and attack Romney on foreign affairs you are as completely incompetent on the issue of foreign affairs as your leader is.

Even if you ignore all the damage Obama has done here at home, this middle east situation is all you need to know for this election. Israel and Iran are about to go to war. Israel's Prime Minister asks for a meeting with Obama to discuss the matter and is told that Obama doesn't have the time. The same day Obama announces that he has the time to appear on Letterman, and to attend even more celebrity fundraisers for himself with Beyonce and Jay-Z. When students in Iran demonstrated, demanding freedom, Obama ignored them and didn't even talk about the situation until he expressed his support for the radical regime against the demonstrators. But, when the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization recognized by our government as a terrorist organization with ties to Al Qaeda, Hammas, and other groups, started riots in Libya and Egypt, Obama jumped at the chance to help them overthrow the leaders of those two nations. Mubarek in Egypt was a staunch US ally who maintained peace with Israel for decades. When the brotherhood took over, thanks to Obama, their first action was to declare Israel as the enemy and their destruction as their goal. Gaddafi in Libya, despite his history, had become an important source of intelligence after he learned his lesson when Reagan ordered him taken out. He had bee supplying us with intelligence on terrorist training camps for years.
Steve
12:52 am on Thursday, September 13, 2012
Congress, republicans and democrats together, knowing that Obama's friends in the brotherhood were terrorists, voted against providing aid to them. Obama acted on his own, approved a waiver, and gave these terrorists $1.5 billion of our money in support. Money that we don't have, during the worst recession since the depression. Obama has eliminated two allies, greatly strengthened the terrorist enemy, and as made obvious in Netanyahu's speech, convinced our strongest ally, Israel, that we can no longer be trusted, just as he did the Eastern Europeans at the beginning of his term. No President, no leader of any nation, has done the staggering amount of peacetime damage that Obama has done not only to our nation, but to the world. All that I have said about this is easily verifiable and true. I find it increasing hard to remain civil with anyone who still supports this man or his party.
Steve
12:55 am on Thursday, September 13, 2012
Hal, Steve, Tim, and Sarah, you are a glaring example of why the founding fathers did not trust the responsibility, not the right, the RESPONSIBILITY, of voting to just anyone. They knew it was too important to hand out like candy on Halloween to just anyone. They limited it to only those landowners who had a vested interest in the success of the nation, because they knew they would strive to remain informed. And no, it wasn't about race as you lefties like to believe. There were black landowners, and black slave owners, in the Colonies. Those of you who do not care enough to find or face facts, who would vote for Satan as long as he ran as a democrat, and who continue to lie to yourselves and everyone else, have no business voting for the leaders of this country. You would not be allowed to vote for the policies of a company whos business you do not understand, why on earth should you be voting for the leadership of this nation?
Steve
10:19 pm on Sunday, September 16, 2012
You know, It's interesting that everyone is all over Obama about the problems in the middle east. Sure, he helped the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood dispose of the leaders of Egypt and Libya and take over those countries. Sure he then gave those same terrorists over $1.5 billion that we don't have in the middle of the worst economy since the depression.
Now we hear that ambassador Stevens had sent a message that the security at the embassy was inadequate, and nothing was done. One of the other men who was killed had posted a message that day saying that they expected an attack, that security was not sufficient, and that he hoped they were "not going to die tonight".
Why is everyone mad at Obama? All he is doing is what he said he would do. In his book "Audacity of Hope", Obama said, and I quote: I will stand with the Muslims if the political winds blow in an ugly direction". That is what he is doing. Standing with the Muslims, not with America. He told us this people. In that same book he told us he was a Marxist too. Why is anyone surprised?

They are exactly what the majority of Americans want to hear right now. All of the interviews I have seen about it drive that point home, even on CNN. Government handouts have bankrupted this country and anyone with the slightest trace of intelligence knows it and knows that something needs to be done NOW. Our credit rating was just reduced AGAIN. The only two times in our entire history and both because of Democrat/Obama policies. Obama has a dream of a greatly diminished America and he has done much to bring it about. Keep dreaming guys. Keep believing the MSM polls that over-sample democrats. There are three polls that have decent records of success. All of them have Romney ahead, and the only two that have correctly predicted every single Presidential election since 1980 both have Romney winning by more than 100 electoral votes. The Obama administration had advance warning of the impending attacks and did nothing. And the administration's pathetic lies, which everyone knew were lies from the start, that these attacks had anything to do with a movie that no one has seen, have been once and forever exposed by the intelligence sources on the ground who have stated that there was no protest or riot going on at the embassy before the attack. It was a straight out attack and the movie nonsense was started afterward as a coverup. A coverup that Obama is supporting for his terrorist friends in the Muslim Brotherhood. As I said, no reason to be surprised here. He came right out and told us in his book that if things got ugly he would stand with the muslims, not with America, and that is exactly what he is doing.

Sorry Steve (2), I am very well read, college graduated, self employed professional who simply disagrees with your position. It's kind of sad that you don't realize just how much of a fool you are. If you did, you wouldn't support a Marxist who is so damaging to you and every American. I, like most Americans, do watch Fox, because they are the only news organization that is not biased. If you ever actually watched instead of spouting uninformed B.S. (a habit of yours) you would make a fool of yourself by claiming they are biased. On Fox you have far left people like Bob Beckel, Alan Combs, Juan Williams, Susan Estridge, Sheperd Smith, and others who are either on every day or who have their own shows. How many conservatives are on Obama's propaganda outlets?

So let's look at the last four years. The US credit rating has been reduced for the the first and second time in our history. Unemployment, REAL unemployment, U6, which includes the millions of people who have given up that the democrats refuse to talk about, is approaching 15% and has been over 10% for three years. More has been added to the debt and deficit in four years than in the well over 200 years encompassing all previous Presidents from George Washington through Clinton. Although Bush spent way too much money, Obama has spent twice as much in half the time. All of our allies have been alienated and no longer trust us. Our terrorist enemies have been emboldened not only by our weakness, but by Obama's monetary support. He helped the terrorists gain control of Egypt and Libya, which has completely destabilized the middle east and is leading to war. Anti-American demonstrations are more widespread than they have ever been.

The prices of gas, energy, and food are all setting record highs and continuing to rise and not only can this be directly linked to Obama policies, but you can find videos of Obama stating that higher gas prices are a good thing, and that energy prices will "necessarily skyrocket" under his plans. After stating that you never raise taxes during a recession, Obama has saddled EVERYONE, especially the middle class, with the largest increase in taxes in human history. The CBO has again adjusted upward the amount that Obamacare is going to increase the cost of health care for the middle class while destroying the quality of care.

The day the democrats took over was not January 22, 2009, it was actually January 3, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate at the very start of the 110th congress. At that time the GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%. The Unemployment rate was 4.6%. Gas was $1.89/gallon. Republican economic policies under Bush set an all-time record of 52 months in a row of job creation.
January 3, 2007 was the day the Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee. The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the Economy? BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
The democrat-controlled Senate has not passed an annual budget, as required by law, in four years. Obama did submit one, and it was such a disaster that the democrat-controlled Senate voted it down 99-0, and the house voted it down 141-0. This is a legislative record for failure.
Sure, this, which only scratches the surface of the destruction Obama and the democrats have done, is a record that intelligent people see as worthy of reelection.

You just spout B.S. with zero supporting sources and make a fool of yourself. Sure, you're right, what relevance does it have to compare the state of the economy before and after the democrats took control? What a fool. I love the narrative today. Obama's minions are so painfully desperate to find some positive economic news to latch on to. They know that can't be honest or quote actual accepted economic indicators, so they are now quoting census data, census data that is a year old, which shows a .04% increase in home sales as a sign that the economy has finally "bottomed out and is moving forward". LOL. Census data as an economic indicator! No one has been desperate enough to try that! Gee, I wonder why they don't talk about genuine economic indicators or what those same census numbers look like since then? LOL.

And now, for the sadly uninformed Steve, some backgound on why Obama is a marxist and never really had a chance of being anything else. All of this is from his books, his own words, and the words of those around him. No Limbaugh, no Fox news. In fact, even they rarely address this from what I hear. It's long because Obama's marxist history is long.
Obama's Mother was a communist sympathizer because of her communist parents. They even relocated to Mercer Island specifically so their daughter could attend Mercer Island high school. What was special about Mercer Island High School? According to The Chicago Tribune: "In 1955, the chairman of the Mercer Island school board, John Stenhouse, testified before the House Un-American Activities Subcommittee that he had been a member of the Communist Party. He told the committee that "Led by Communists in my union, the United Auto Workers, I joined Communist party discussion groups".

A former instructor named Wichterman remembers Ms. Dunham: "As much as a high-school student can, she'd question: What's so good about democracy? What's so good about capitalism? What's wrong with communism? When she married Obama's stepfather, Leo Sotero, she thought hew was another Obama Sr. When he became involved in the government's anti-communist activities she got furious, told Barack to never listen to him and learn all he could about his "real" father. She even sent him back to the U.S. to live with her parents so Sotero could not influence him. Obama still says "The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics" and was quoted as saying so in the Chicago Tribune.
Steve

Obama's grandparents were also communists and attended the "Little Red Church on the hill". It got its name from it's known ties to the Communist Party USA. John Stenhouse, the same communist from her high school, served as church president after being thrown out of the school system for being exposed as a communist.
When Obama's grandfather realized that Barack was having trouble dealing with his mixed race background, he decided he needed a black mentor. He introduced him to the man Obama still identifies as his mentor, Frank Marshall Davis. Davis is a notorious communist activist with a giant FBI file on his communist activities.
Obama, in his book "Dreams of My father" said this of his university days: "I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets."

Obama's Cousin Raila Odinga is a Marxist revolutionary in Kenya. When Odinga, the son of one of Kenya's most notorious communist revolutionaries, was running for President of Kenya in 2006, Obama went to Kenya on the taxpayer's dime and campaigned for Odinga. Odinga made a pact with a hard-line Islamic group in Kenya to establish Shariah courts throughout the country if elected and when he lost he directed a program of ethnic cleansing among the tribes who opposed him. Thousands were murdered. Pictures of Obama campaigning for him are readily available on the web.

Alice Palmer, who traveled to the Soviet Union to attend the 27th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and wrote about it in the communist party magazine "People's Daily World", hand picked Obama to be her successor in the State Senate. Obama's Run for the Illinois State Senate was Launched by a Fundraiser Organized at Weather Underground marxist terrorists Bill Ayers' and Bernardine Dorhn's Chicago Home. He received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America. Later, the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America newsletter reported that Obama, as a state senator, delivered the eulogy of Saul Mendelson, one of the “champions” of “Chicago’s democratic left” and a long-time communist activist.
The Communist Party USA has endorsed Obama in every election he has run in. Their website reported how "Our Party actively supported Obama during the Presidential election." They were also a sponsor, with pretty much every communist and socialist group active in the U.S., of the 10-2-10 rally that the Obama White House also endorsed right on the White House website.

Obama's other mentor, who performed his wedding and baptized his children, Jeremiah Wright, is an admitted Marxist. His "Trinity United Church of Christ" started in South America in the during 1950's and was a player in helping marxism make great gains among the poor because of its emphasis on the redistribution of wealth.
Now let’s take a look at the people he has surrounded himself with in his administration.
Van Jones - self-described communist radical and founder of the communist revolutionary group STORM.
Cass Sunstein - marxist who has written several books on subverting the law and pushing "stupid Americans" who he compares to Homer Simpson into accepting the overthrow of the American systems of government and economy in favor of a marxist/socialist system.
Mark Lloyd - Another marxist who has openly professed his admiration for Hugo Chavez and wants to control all media in the U.S. the way Chavez did in Venezuela.
Anita Dunn - who named communist mass murderer Mao Tse Tung as someone she looks to for guidance.
Steve
1:29 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2012
Ron Bloom - Who stated that "We agree with Mao that the free market system is a joke and that power only comes from the barrel of a gun".
Valerie Jarrett - Daughter-in-law of Vernon Jarrett, a close associate of communist Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis, who stated how happy they were to have communist radical Van Jones in the administration and that they "had been watching him since his days of activity in Oakland". It was there that he formed the communist revolutionary group STORM.
Carol Browner - Commissioner of "Socialist International" up until one week before joining the administration.
Ed Montgomery - Communist DuBois Club member.
John Holdren - Socialist who openly advocated forced abortions and lacing the U.S. water supply with drugs to sterilize the male population to halt what he saw as a population problem.
Donald Berwick - who loves the socialized medicine system that is currently bankrupting the U.K. and openly admitted that there will be rationing of care here under Obamacare.

Steve, his point is not that Obama isn't a marxist. It is that he is not alone and he is absolutely correct. Let's take a look at the Communist Party Manifesto as published in The Congressional Record, January 10, 1963, and see how much of it sounds exactly like the democrat party platform or their actions.
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
Steve
4:20 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2012
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.
Steve

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

As if Obama wasn't already in enough trouble, this middle east debacle is the final nail in the coffin. After stubbornly sticking to the terrorist cover story all this time, the administration finally started admitting to what every single source in Libya has been saying all along. This was a preplanned attack that had absolutely nothing to do with some stupid video trailer. But apparently, the nitiwit-in-chief didn't get the message. When a student showed more integrity than anyone in the mainstream media and asked Obama why he didn't provide more security when he had three days notice of the coming attacks, he again spouted the lie that it was a spontaneous event triggered by the video! He just can't turn on his muslim terrorist brothers. Fort Hood was "workplace violence". 9/11 was a "manmade disaster". The war on terror is an "overseas contingency operation". The Muslim Brotherhood is a "democracy movement". Now we find out that the administration spent $70,000 on television ads in Pakistan featuring Obama and Hillary again apologizing to "offended muslims" for the video!!!! This level of incompetence and corruption has never been seen in American government before. Well, the corruption maybe. In Chicago. And who is a graduate of corrupt Chicago politics????
