Police Chase, Arrest Alleged Armed Carjacker Outside White Marsh Sears

Police said the man was arrested after a brief chase that ended in the Rosedale area on Dec. 21.

Police arrested a Baltimore man shortly after he allegedly used a handgun to steal a vehicle outside the Sears department store at White Marsh Mall last week.

Darien Marquis Hebron, 19, of the 2600 block of Loyola Southway, was charged with armed carjacking, as well as several traffic violations and other charges, a police report shows.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Dec. 21, in the 8200 block of Perry Hall Boulevard, a man carrying a handgun approached the driver of a 2000 silver Cadillac Deville and forced him out of the car, according to the police report.

Police immediately responded, chased and stopped the car near Kenwood Avenue and the Interstate 95 overpass. Police arrested and identified the alleged carjacker as Hebron. No serious injuries were reported, the police report shows.

He was charged with armed carjacking, carjacking, armed robbery, robbery, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, unauthorized removal of property, theft between $1,000 and $10,000, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, the use of a firearm in a violent crime, handgun on person, handgun in vehicle, speeding, driving without a license, failure to drive right of center, turning off vehicle lights to avoid identification, failure to stop for police, failure to stop after being involved in an accident, negligent driving and reckless driving, online court records show.

A booking photo of Hebron was not immediately available Thursday afternoon, as the investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Cpl. Cathleen Batton, a Baltimore County police spokeswoman.

Hebron remained at the Baltimore County Detention Center as of Thursday, Batton said.

Gee, I wonder who commits all the armed hijackings in the Baltimore metro area. Even though Patch won't state the race of offenders, we can all be glad Darien's "mama" chose to give him "Marquis" as a middle name, thus ending any speculation about his race.

Everyone has a mama, but only certain people's mamas name then "Marquis." I am sorry if my mere confirmation about Baltimore Metro crime statistic offends you. If it weren't for the crimes committed by the "Marquis" and "Trayvons" of the area, Baltimore would be one of the safest, most crime-free cities in the nation.

@ George you make it seem that "Black" people are the only people to comment crime in Baltimore which is ridiculous! Baltimore population is 29.6% White, 63.7% Black, 0.4% American Idian, 2.3% Asian & 1.9% of other races. So in other words b/c Black people make up a high percentage of Baltimore I can understand why you would feel that way however if by any chances you believe any of this idiotic comment you made then GOD bless you.

To Sadden, if that is the population chart which i think and looks correct then why are black people still considered a minorty in that area? Seems double standard to me.

@John- My assumption would be b/c our National numbers play a big part in that. Blacks make up 13% of the population in the United States which makes us an minorty as a whole. My point for George was, he would think that way b/c black people for the most part make up Baltimore however it would be the same if you took Dundalk for instance where the white population is 79%, one would think that if it wasn't for the George's & Toms of that area it would be safer (according to George's commit). Crime is crime regardless of the race of the person committing it and it's unfortunate but ALL races commit them.

You guys are missing the point Why is the victim allowed to own a Cadillac? He should drive something cheaper and give the rest of the money to Hebron and his momma so they can have as much as he. Obama will fix this. He needs more of us to go on welfare and take mass transit so we do not tempt the poor and less fortunate. Shame on the victim for working hard and buying himself a nice car. If you feel the need to make any comments towars Darien & what he did by all means knock yourself out however don't pull his MOTHER or as u out it his momma, father, life bringing ups or any other situation into this other then, this was something he choose to do. His father & I do not need any CHILD to go out & take what's not there's to give to us. As a matter of fact we own our own businessES. Please don't misunderstand me & my defense in no way do I agree with what happened at all.

Darien Marquis Hebron, 19, of the 2600 block of Loyola Southway was charged with all that and at only 19 is a baby daddy who will most likely grow up to be another Darien Marquis Hebron if a boy baby. Momma will raise a few children from different fathers who some will be the Darien Marquis Hebron's of the world just like Darien Marquis Hebron's momma raised him up and the cycle continues.

More Nolle Pross and more good time and out soon and next time the victim may not be as lucky.

sanchez is right, its a vicious bad parenting cycle that creates the majority of criminals. Sadly he will also be getting out sooner then later. we need to keep trash locked up longer in this country, but we cant cause there is no more room to hold them. So what does one do?? i have some thoughts but they involve increasing the use of the death penalty which i am sure will not be received well.

Andrew, more simply will not happen. We jail more people as percentage of our population than any other country in the world. Think about that for a second or two. Then we here let's lock them up longer. We jail a lot of people for drug offenses and many of those commit burglaries to feed their habits.

Regarding the death penalty, it is cheaper to just lock them up, life with no parole.

Out off all the comments I've read I think this one was the most ignorant of them all! Darien 19 does not have any children, was going to school for engineering, his dad is a very well known person & mentor in Baltimore. So you see their is no cycle. He did not have a troubled back ground, he was not abused, neglected, or any other words you can think of. It appears to me that you may have a little problems that you may need to have addressed. Truth of the matter is as such as we would like our children to go up & be positive people something it doesn't work out that way than we as parents have to defend our selfs against people like you.

Dudley Sharp, Death Penalty Resources Director of Justice For All (JFA), Justice for All presentation titled "Death Penalty and Sentencing Information," wrote:"Many opponents present, as fact, that the cost of the death penalty is so expensive (at least $2 million per case?), that we must choose life without parole ('LWOP') at a cost of $1 million for 50 years. Predictably, these pronouncements may be entirely false. JFA estimates that LWOP cases will cost $1.2 million - $3.6 million more than equivalent death penalty cases.

There is no question that the up front costs of the death penalty are significantly higher than for equivalent LWOP cases. There also appears to be no question that, over time, equivalent LWOP cases are much more expensive... than death penalty cases. Opponents ludicrously claim that the death penalty costs, over time, 3-10 times more than LWOP."

Of course you do not quote a source but just pull the numbers out from somewhere. Secondly, there is no proof that executions are a deterrent, it is only your gut feel. Unless you don't read, which may be the case.

There has been significant proof of people on death row found innocent through DNA testing who would be dead now. Which probably means there are people dead that were innocent killed wrongly be the State. Just lock them up.

What I really like about people like you 12 are your ability to misdirect and mislead people by stating partial facts, mixed with a lot of nonsense and then make it sound true. You obviously watch Fox a lot.

Spengler was convicted in 1980 of manslaughter and sentenced to 26 years. He servied 18 years and was paroled in 1998. His sentence and parole were complete in 2006. So no one "let him go" to commit another murder. Manslaughter is not a crime punishable by death in any state of the USA. So your point was what??

To the comment below...FIFA...No the system did not technically "let him go"...but the system is broken. Prison should be just that prison...in otherwords...no perks.
EVERYONE eats the same food, no computers, airconditioning, exercise equipment, tvs...etc. They are PRISONERS who have BROKEN THE LAW. Get real. And as far as murderers...lock them up and throw away the key...permanently. Society is a mess. Your reference to "People like you" includes more citizens than you can count in your liberal brain. Just take a walk downtown on a Saturday night. See how safe you are. I am so sick and tired of people not owning up to reality. If we can't execute then here is a solution. Buy a tropical island and secure it. Then drop off all of the criminals to fend for theirselves. Give them seeds, tools, and the basic supplies. Let them live and die as they please. Their lives would be in their own hands...they can live together or die together. I personally don't care. Murderers, pediphiles, rapists and the like can have a ball with each other. We do too much to help these nuts and it does not make a difference.

Role models aren't the issues b/c he has several great ones, schooling isn't the issues b/c he went to a good school as a matter of fact had a GPA of 3.56 on a 4.0 scale & yes what he did is not accusable in anyway. DARIEN simply came across the wrong people who was able to influence him a little bit more than his dad & I. So now we're at this across road. People are so fast to judge & say "oh where we're the patents" until you become a parent like I did its easier said then done when it comes to your child do or not doing something. At this point we can only pray, pray for the victim & that's he's okay & pray that b/c our son (DARIEN) is still young, this is something he can learn from and get back on the right path instead of falling victim to the streets. So to everyone who made comments on family, upbringing, schooling, address, please know a little about all of that before pulling us in. Not only does DARIEN have to answer & sit in jail for what he did most importantly he has to answer to GOD & maybe just maybe while he's sitting there he will find his way back $ ask GOD for forgiveness.

All i know is if i where running for the Baltimore county executive office i would make it a priority for the people who lived in there home for a certain amount of years to pay less taxes on the home. I would also stop handing out free money if you commit a crime. Instead of jail time for minor offenses you would have to work for the county to pay off your jail time. This can cut down on jail expenses and at the same time clean up the county. Speed camera etc also make the communities look bad. They work for the city but out in the county especially in the nice area's they look bad. We also need to cut down on waste like unnecessary mailings that i get because my wife has a last name of Mendoza and they think she is spanish so she gets mail in spanish to see if she needs help. She is a filipina and does not need help but i wonder why i don't get these mailings. I guess its because im whte and they feel only minorties should get these benefits. Sad but they target minorites so they can offer them free things in the county its a one way street to get the vote.
