Monopoly Token To Be Axed

Monopoly's maker plans to retire one of its classic game tokens, and replace it with a new one.

Hasbro, the company that makes Monopoly, is sending one of the game's classic tokens to jail—permanently.

Fans have until Feb. 6 to vote on the token they'd like to see saved, according to Hasbro's Facebook page, where the votes are taken. The token with the least votes will be retired.

All tokens—the race car, thimble, boot, Scottie dog, battleship, hat, iron and wheelbarrow—are at risk.

AAA Mid-Atlantic has launched a social media campaign to save the race car token.

To replace the retired piece, fans also have the option to vote on a new token to pass go—a cat, robot, ring, helicopter or guitar.

People who read the Patch don't live in a vacuum. Not everything on this site HAS to be about Towson and the surrounding community. Sometimes variety is OK. It's not like these types of stories dominate the Patch. Give the editors/writers some credit. The Patch has proven to be relevant and informative.

No, we don't live in a vacuum, we live in Baltimore County. For weeks there has been virtually no local news at Arbutus Patch. There was one story about Lansdowne High School, taken from the school's web site, and one story about a burglary suspect in Catonsville taken from a press release. No news about crime, nothing about what groups are doing, nothing about things that are happening in this area of Baltimore County at all. The Patch is filled with stories about Randallstown, Towson, all over the place except here. What happened to the crime reports? A lighter story about an offbeat subject now and then is fine, but Patch shouldn't pretend to be a local news site if it isn't actually covering local news. The name of Lansdowne High School was misspelled in a headline and stayed that way all day even though I pointed it out in the morning, suggesting to me that not a single Patch editor or reporter looked at the site all day. If nobody from Patch is reading the site, why should anybody else?

Good Grief Walter - you are complaining about there being NO CRIME in your area ? Some of us will be more than happy to send some of our residents, with 1 bus token to create some Patch news for you.

On the contrary, Needaname. There has been plenty of crime in this area, including at least one arson. None of it has been reported in Patch. What, you think that if crime isn't reported it doesn't exist?

I really don't think that you all understand the importance of this announcement. Obviously, if they eliminate the car, thimble or boot...life will go on. But, if they should be so foolish as to actually eliminate the Scottie Dog...life as we know it will surely cease to exist. There will ne no hope...NO HOPE!!!

Love it Howard! The boot has to stay too. What else can you use to kick the Scottie dog? :)

You could try to run him over with the car but remember they are terriers and those guys are tough enough to throw the iron at your hat!

When my sons were young, they always fought over the car. During one such incident one of them, in a rage to not allow his brothers the peice, swallowed it. It came out some days later, twisted and discolored. That was the end of the fighting over the car monopoly peice!!!

"Scottie the dog" was the token my brother and I battled for; however, he would always be tilted on hos head and named Nuclear Nose

Why retire any of them? But if they must retire one it should be the ship. Keep the race car.
