Neighbors Rattled By Perry Hall Double Stabbing

Jennifer Searles had just put her young son to bed Thursday evening when a police helicopter's spotlight began shining in her windows. She heard sirens and watched as police dogs searched the neighborhood.
"I desperately wanted to know what was going on but no one knocked on our door to tell us. I was just so freaked out," said Searles, a resident of Hilltop Acres Road.
According to Baltimore County police, the Perry Hall neighborhood, lined with a mix of townhomes and single-family homes, was the scene of a brutal double stabbing and search.
At about 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 3, in the 5000 block of Hilltop Acres Road, two men, 19 and 20 years old, got into a fight with another unknown man. Both men were stabbed and ran toward Winding Way, where they called 911 and were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, police announced Friday morning.
One of the victims had been released and the other remained at the hospital into Friday morning, the release stated. Police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton did not indicate where the victims were from or why they were in the area, citing the ongoing investigation.
As of Friday afternoon, the search for the suspect continued. He is described as a black male, between 18 and 25 years old, with a slim build and was wearing all dark clothing, Batton said.
For Searles, the incident raised several concerns.
"I know all of my neighbors. No one fitting the suspect description even lives around here. If this was some sort of drug deal, I want to know," she said.
"We come out here every day to watch the school bus. There are numerous elementary school children who live on this block. It's very family friendly," she added.
Jennifer Mahon, another resident of Hilltop Acres Road, agreed that the incident seemed out of place in the quiet community.
"As far as I know, it's a very safe neighborhood. I've been here about five to seven months and we've never had anything like this. My dogs usually let me know if anything is going on," she said.

My dad lives on Winding Way, has been there since early 90's. It's a very quiet neighborhood. Silver Spring dead ends and there's nothing but older big homes back there. Many of the residents still leave their doors unlocked and everyone knows everyone. I hope they find the guy responsible. The last thing the people there need is trash like him ruining the community.

Thanks for letting the public know that some people leave there doors unlocked. Just because he is black does not mean its our of the norm. Black people live everywhere and yes they do commit more crimes then any other nationality but that does not mean he is not from there or the surrounding area. Most likely it was something to do with drugs or something illegal because they are young and stupid.

I have lived on Jessica lane, right down the street, for 15 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. I would like to think that this was isolated, but the fact is that crime is spreading from a center nucleus ( Baltimore City) to the outlining counties. They bus those city people up this way and this kind of stuff happens. I am not naive and I am not a racist. I am a realist. You let that kind of element into our neighborhoods and this is going to happen.

This one? No. Others? Absolutely. At one point we had a drug dealer (we are fairly certain) living on OUR block. It was called in at one point by a neighbor, and the Police found nothing. Good fortune for them, perhaps.
Crime happens. It happened plenty before Patch sites were around to report everything the standard news media doesn't have time and resources too. Crime is happening LESS in our neighborhoods then in recent years past, on the whole. It doesn't take long to verify this (with the exception of drug specific crime).
You'd never know it from the posters on here, though. It's all too easy to lose perspective.
I just enjoy pointing out irrationality and hypocrisy in our society, since it's unfortunately riddled with it, and this forum is no different.
Example: Leaving your doors unlocked at night - idiotic. Saying nothing is happening for 15 years, and then suggesting one event is not isolated, well that's just incorrect, and an oxymoron.
I understand your sentiments though. One resorts to insults when they lack of a rational argument. Of course, this is something I am seldom in a position to need.

Big part of why our car insurance rates keep going up are the yahoos that leave their cars running at 7-11, etc. I see it all the time. When they report it, they now have no car, but still have to pay for it.

I asked an insurance claims person if the insurance company would pay for a stolen car if they knew the keys were left in it and it was running. The answer was "Yes, we have to insure stupid also". And we wonder why our rates are so high. Yesterday, there were 6 (SIX) cars worth a total of close to $100,000 in front of the 7-11 I visited.
