New Forge Extension to Link Perry Hall, White Marsh

The road extension cost Baltimore County just under $1 million.

The New Forge Road extension, between Perry Hall and White Marsh, is expected to open by Wednesday, the Baltimore County Department of Public Works announced.

The extension connects New Forge Road to Allender Road and links Pulaski Highway and Philadelphia Road, forming a "continuous route to Honeygo Boulevard in Perry Hall," according to the release.

New Forge Road and Allender Road now meet in a "T" intersection and the county has installed a stop sign. New sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and water and sanitary sewer extensions were installed as well.

The extension measures at about 800 feet long and 50 feet wide. Construction on the project began in May and cost the county just under $1 million, the release stated.

Do you plan to use the road extension? Tell us in the comments.

C'mon! Everyone knows it's just an opportunity to build another Walgreens and a new Royal Farms store and gas station lol.

Echoing the other comments, what was wrong with using Allender Rd at Rt7? This really screws the neighborhood on the east side of New Forge and Rt7. Hope those kids can duck and dive!

I have no knowledge of the reason, but I'll take a guess that creating an extension of New Forge Rd. through the new community was easier than getting the Allender Rd. folks to agree to widening, and with better potential to add a traffic light (which is probably coming soon.)

Well, there's your "Million Dollar" ( holy cow ) speedway. In the future, the county won't be able to install " traffic calming" devices because the road is " double wide ".

There's a very long downgrade ( ~ 1/2 mile ) and I'm sure the cars will be smokin' down that road.

Really no need to widen Allender - just a trafiic signal - and that would have saved - almost 'just under a million'
The people living in New Forge community fought this and lost and Yes there a ton of families with children -

My guess is that it was pre-planned when the new community was laid out.

Although Allender is not "narrow" in my opinion, a project to address the higher traffic load might technically require "widening" to county standards, including curbs.

So, anyone want to place bets on the number of accidents at Philadelphia and New Forge?!! They screwed up Allender road with a new design! I am so sick of them accommodating for the new neighborhoods!! What about those who have lived in the older neighborhoods?!!! This has to stop!!! Remember when we vote!!!!

Less accidents will occur at New Forge than Allender. The view from NF is much better than Allender.

really..what is the purpose...see the prior post. they will most likely need to install speed camera so it is not a race way. I have already seen people passing me doing 70 at lease.

allender road is narrow at that curve where you have to bear the corner to keep going straight. it never was before they decided to change it though. all those people spent all that money to live in those big houses and now they will have indy 500 in their front yard...including me, i live on winkler :(

I'm sure the builder knew about the future of that road as it was made Extra wide to allow for this traffic. I wonder if the builder disclosed this to all the people who purchased those homes along the road. If not then I smell a lawsuit and I hope the people win!
I hope they don't open this new road without some type of speed reduction devices. I live near this and have seen plenty of people zipping up and down Allender even with the current "T" intersection in it which causes you to really slow down! I know a lot of people on here don't like speed cameras, but I'd be fine if they put up speed limit signs with blinking yellow lights and then installed speed cameras for those who refuse to follow them. Maybe they could use that Revenue to offset the Million $'s it cost to build 800 feet of road there.
I don't understand how this new road is better than the original curved Allender Road anyway. Most of the houses on Allender are set back pretty far from the road. The new houses on New Forge are right there near the street. I'm just not getting the logic!
I'm not one to want any more Red Lights as they really slow you down and cause it to take a lot longer to drive somewhere. I still think they need one at New Forge and Rt. 7. I hope it doesn't take a bad accident and/or the loss of someone's life before they figure out it is needed. With all the new houses they're building on Allender traffic is sure to increase tremendously over the next year or so.

I live on the New Forge Extention and was told in 2003 that the road would be coming thru, thinking that it would link to Allender not be the main road. I have requested a stop light at New Forge and Rt7 but have been told that traffic studies do not warrant. Yes, it will be a mess with speeding and trucks over 3/4 ton I am hoping that all the neighbors get together and report the speeding and BC's finest will be on duty to catch them as they do on Joppa at the 95 overpass before someone gets seriously hurt.

Terry, You are right! I don't know who did the study but I have seen some near misses there. It will get worse with the new road portion. I hope people don't have to die just to get a light.

@Bill-I requested the study on 8/1 and Andrew Roseman Hanauer with MSHA responded to my request on 9/26 saying "On site observations revealed that left and right turning vehicles on New Forge Road were able to find a gap and enter the traffic stream along MD 7 with minimal difficulty. Vehicles that crossed the intersection from the side streets were also able to cross with minimal difficulty.Site observations revealed that highly reflective, fluorescent yellow, New Forge Road intersection warning signs are placed in advance of New Forge Road along both directions of MD 7. These signs alert motorists of the intersection ahead and the possibility of vehicles entering and exiting this intersection. Also, lighting is in place in the southeast corner of the intersection and was found to be working and functioning properly at night. Stop signs are installed along both approaches of New Forge Road for the side street traffic.Thank you again for your interest in this matter. We will continue to monitor safety and operations at this intersection. To help make motorists feel more comfortable entering the intersection, pavement marking extension lines were installed across the New Forge Road approaches. These pavement markings provide positive guidance by allowing side street traffic to pull up a little closer to the edge of the road to gain better sight distance for completing a turning maneuver.

If this is now a direct route from Honeygo Blvd. to Pulaski Hwy it may get more traffic as folks learn about it. Give it some time and ask for another study.

Maybe the people on New Forge cab get a premament speed trap (radar) like they have on Joppa at rte. 7
