Perry Hall Cub Scouts Learn About Journalism
Here are a few of the things I told third-grade boys about journalism.
As promised, some local Cub Scouts have been Patched!
On Monday night, I visited a crowd of very polite third-grade boys at St. Joseph Parish to talk a little bit about journalism. Special thanks to Assistant Den Leader Tim Maloney of Pack 746 for inviting me.
The highlights:
- Not all news is on TV.
- If you want to write for a newspaper or website, learn to use correct grammar!
- If you want to make it in journalism, you'll probably have to start off by doing a few internships ... so don't be afraid to work for free for a little while.
- Crime reporting is important because it helps remind neighbors to lock their doors and to call police if something bad happens.
- One of the best ways to get ideas for news stories is just to look around.
It was so nice to meet you all!

Wow, Emily, what a wonderful treat for the boys! I couldn't attend the meeting, but my son, Holden, was so excited when he came home! He had a great time learning about what you do, and was so excited to see the story and picture! Thank you!

That was a cool thing to do Emily! And every child has their eyes open and is smiling for the picture - that is amazing, too!
