The 10-bay location is planned within a short distance of several independently owned vehicle maintenance and repair shops.

For several weeks, crews have prepared the foundation on property between Deniro's Pizzeria and Subs and the new Nature's Fresh grocery store along the 9600 block of Belair Road.

Officials confirmed Friday the location will house a 10-bay Firestone Complete Auto Care facility. Scheduled to be completed in late December, possibly early January, it is expected to offer vehicle maintenance, repairs and tires.

Managers plan to hire 10-12 people to work at the new shop, said Jeremy Smith, manager of Bridgestone Retail Operations-Communications, Firestone's parent company.

Smith was unable to share how much money was being invested in the new store. "We don't normally divulge that information," he said.

The Firestone is planned within a short distance of several independently owned vehicle maintenance and repair shops, including Perry Hall Auto & Tire Center directly across the street.

Smith said the new store is part of an "expansion program to go into new markets where we feel there is a lot of potential."

"There are situations where we'll be in competition other businesses, but we feel we offer a unique experience," he added.

No personal complaints here. Far as I can see, the area needs it.
Independent repair shops you never know what you'll get. The same applies to big chains however big chains ultimately don't care for bad PR and there's always someone up the chain you can complain to (and occasionally get a resolution out of) if you genuinely feel wronged.

I speak from some experience - I worked for Pep Boys in college.

Tim I respect your opinion. But here in Perry Hall the independent shops have super wonderful reputations . They have been in business here for maybe 75 years or more. I personally know of 60 years. Honesty is their motto .

Selma: News to me. Although I suspect if the customers of independent shops are so happy with the service they get, Firestone will be of no risk to them.

Fact is there are (someone correct me if I'm wrong) exactly zero shops of this sort in Perry Hall proper. I've gotten I think one positive review and it's from this company:

Why don't I go there? Their weekend hours stink. Last I checked, most of us work during the week and really prefer to NOT be carless for a workday.

There's a Merchants in what I guess is Parkville/Rosedale, and an NTB, Pep Boys, and Midas down along Joppa Rd as you approach Loch Raven.

and actually, it's the exact same reason I quit my small gym in Loch Raven that's privately owned, and joined the Perry Hall Y instead when it opened.
Weekend hours.

Tim actually I believe you are correct. The customers will not be leaving the place where they are happy. And this area is growing beyond our wildest dream. Perry Hall is no longer a small community . Change happens. The old independent folks may just have all they can handle. But they the independents are all great folks.

Selma: No doubt. It's been a long time coming as it sits at a literal right angle point between Bel Air and Towson.

I just wish it wouldn't grow with stuff we already have (or have too much of already). I believe at this point the Firestone will fill a specific need, without pulling too much from smaller local shops. If Klausmeier and Sons had liberal weekend hours I'd be much more apt to give them a try.

No no no. Go away tire people. You only will ruin the look of Perry Hall. I sure hope all the customers of the other shops will stay loyal. I do believe they will.

I, for one, will be monitoring this new business for 100% compliance with the County's Sign Code. We don't need the usual flags and portable signs found at most Firestone tire stores (or a pile of tires out by the road).

One of simple secret about auto insurance is your location can affect premium pretty easily. If you have two address try both of them and see if your premium goes up and down. If you need tips on auto insurance search "Auto Insurance Clearance" it is the best place

Why do we have to force the small family owned businesses out of existance? I use them and sometimes pay a little more to do so. I also BUY AMERICAN when I can. Do you really want to live in a world where you can't work for yourself, everything is made in China and the Government dictates what you can do? Some people actually like that.

I keep hearing service is why small businesses do well.

If that's the case, then they won't be forced out of business, now will they? Moreover, if anyone wants to pay more to a small local company, no one's forcing you to go to Firestone or a chain.

Honestly, in this desolate wasteland of an economic community, I welcome any large chain to realize the money's hereto be spent. I'm sick of having to go to White Marsh, Towson, or Harford County to spend money.
