Perry Hall Republican Hosting Firearms Town Hall

Delegate Joe Boteler will join five other elected officials for the forum Saturday.

Republican lawmakers are planning a town hall meeting in Parkton Saturday morning to discuss firearms.

The meeting comes as legislators discuss gun regulation bills in Annapolis. Last month, the Senate passed Gov. Martin O'Malley's Firearm Safety Act of 2013. It still has not passed through the House of Delegates.

Delegate Joe Boteler, who represents Perry Hall, will join Senator J.B. Jennings and Delegates Rick Impallaria, Susan Aumann and Pat McDonough for the town hall on March 16.

"All are invited to come and weigh in on current firearm laws as well as firearm law proposals before the General Assembly," according to an email from the group of lawmakers.

Organizers have reached out to the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore, the National Rifle Association, and Maryland Shall Issue for participation.

The town hall will be at the Parkton American Legion (19520 York Road) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16.

As long as we, as citizens of this country, retain the right to bear arms, we will remain in pretty good shape. I believe we should have strong background checks and waiting periods, as well as common sense training for new gun owners. Learning how to store, clean and use a personal weapon should be mandatory. There is no way to predict someone's future behavior, but keeping weapons from law abiding citizens will never work. People have the right to protect themselves and their family, period. However, they also have a responsibility to handle, store and use the weapon in a safe and appropriate manner as well.

I just wish the Supreme Court, with there whits and intelligence, would explain to the people what does and doesn't violate our rights to bear arms (2nd amendment). That way the NRA would be drowned and meaningless in our society.
Similar to the healthcare debate, the Tea Party said the ACA was unconstitutional and the Supreme Court proved them wrong. Now the Tea Party is just a bunch of mental patients who need psychiatric help.
It's a good thing we have a third branch of government.

@Mark We already have solutions. There are laws against leaving arms unsecured. Additionally, if we had more school security we would have more secure schools.

Gun control is like banning cars because some people drive too fast and too drunk.

Yikes! The NRA, a fake-grassroots organization. Maybe I'll go as long as Kathy Szeliga isn't there

You are not free because you hide behind a fake name.

Del. Boteler, I hope you will be willing to support the bill for tighter gun laws. I no longer believe that all guns should be illegal since the 2 nd amendment can be interpreted to say that citizens should be allowed to have them. But I cannot understand why anyone needs high powered or large magazine weapons for self defense. And those who want to purchase and own guns should be willing to wait for complete background checks and be fingerprinted. Unless they have something to hide, this would be a minor inconvenience. I had to get a license to drive, fingerprinted to teach, etc, etc. gun violence and gun accidents are out of control in this country. And so many victims are children! We can't afford to continue as we have.

Hey Joe,
Why don't you hold the meeting in your current district with the people who elected you and where an innocent student from Perry Hall was shot. Or is this just a campaign stop and more grand standing for a run in your new district.

@Mike Joe Boetelor makes himself plenty available. Your remark was what one would call a cheap shot and an indicator of prejudice on your part.

So the organizers have "reached out" to 3 gun organizations. Sounds like it would not be worth it for anyone who wants reasonable and much needed gun control to bother going. I know they will just be shouted down by the "gun rights" people who refuse to have reasonable discussions about the subject.

When liberals say "reasonable" it means unreasonable and burdensom and we lose either our rights or our property.

I don't want any more gun laws! Enforce the ones we already have. This isn't about gun control. Its about government control. You want to stop the killings by mentally ill people? Treat the mentally ill people. Criminals will always find ways to get guns.
