Perry Hall Residents, Police Return Wandering Child Home
A 4-year-old caused quite a commotion Tuesday night when she decided to go for a walk.
A little girl is home safe thanks to an observant Perry Hall resident, responsive police and curious neighbors.
A Perry Hall resident flagged down a Baltimore County police officer Tuesday after the citizen noticed a 4-year-old walking down the street by herself—at 10:30 p.m.
The little girl was found near the intersection of Cowenton and Rexis avenues. Police noticed the girl was holding a key belonging to a Cadillac Escalade. The officer called for backup to canvas the area.
Multiple police cruisers and one helicopter searched the area for the Escalade.
"With that amount of attention it drew the neighbors outside," Lt. Ron Brooks, of the White Marsh Police Precinct, said.
One of the residents in the neighborhood knew the child and her family, directing police to the 9300 block of Indian Trail Way, about a tenth of a mile away from where she was found.
Police brought her home to a bewildered grandmother who thought the little girl was still asleep in her bed.
"Apparently she got out of bed, put her clothes on and walked outside," Brooks said.
The girl's grandmother was watching her, while the girl's mother was at work.

I mentioned earlier today on the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PerryHallPatch?fref=ts) that the suspicions that it was a child who triggered the ruckus last night were true. I just wanted to get all of the facts straight before posting. — Nick

There has to be sooo much more to this story.

Why does there have to be more? I don't understand the judgement here really. Does the child have a history of eloping? Have a disability? It was 10:30 at night, the grandparent had reasonable cause to believe the child was sleeping soundly and retiring for the night was safe. I for one am glad to read the child is safe and the story serves as a reminder that no matter how diligent we strive to be, parenting is unpredictable. I'm sure the grandmother and other family members are beyond relieved that this little one is OK and kudos for an aware and caring community for helping a little one return home safely.

This happens all the time with this child or with many children? What is so "lol" about a child on Cowenton alone at night? That road, like so many other highly traveled and too narrow roads in that area could easily have found that child dead.
