They're back.
Last September and October, Patch reported on the stink bug invasion ad nauseum.
Professor Michael J. Raupp, an insect infestation expert at the University of Maryland, College Park, tried to warn us. "What we've seen this fall is just the tip of the iceberg ... Marylanders are going to have to get used to it," Raupp told Patch.
He declared the Baltimore County area "generally infested" last year.
In your opinion, compared to last year, has the stink bug problem grown better or worse? What's your preferred method for dealing with them?

I flush at least on an average of 6-7 Stink Bugs a day. They seem to be attracted to the Northwest side of the house. Yes, I would say that Perry Hall is infested. Also fruit flies seem to be a problem this year. I have talked to others who are also having this issue...

yes..fruit flies, gnats, stink bugs, you name it...until we get a heavy frost, the fruit flies and gnats can thrive. When the frost arrives, then, the stink bugs that have survived the frost will be trying harder to get into the house. Yuck.

Seems that most of us are flushing the stink bugs. Does that mean we're sending them to Essex?

We've seen more fruit flies then normal. Stink bugs, we've been fortunate this year. We had maybe 2-3 a day last year, this year it's a bit less. We've become more diligent at keeping the house properly closed. although this is sad in some ways, there are days like this week I want to keep the house open - but these days it's just not worth the insect aggravation.

We have so many fruit flies, too. Fortunately we've managed to keep the stink bugs outside. But crickets on the other hand have invaded my basement and garage. So sick of bugs!!!

Love the soapy-water trick! That trick gets 'em most every time. To prevent Stink bugs from entering in the first place, you've got to seal the gate...that means any marked opening around gable vents, soffits, electrical conduit, and around doors and windows. High quality, silicone caulking material and insect screening are your pest defense against this pest!

Just a few stink bugs so far this year (Hopefully that's all) but I have really been battling the very very tiny brown ants. Everytime I think I have conquered them -- just get a rain and I am back to the battle.

The stink bugs have not been too bad...much better than last year. Those darn little ants though have been relentless. I have been battling them for weeks. Just when it seems you have them under control they are back again. Rosemary, I suggest you try Terro bait. I just discovered it and it has been 100 times better than those little traps, and it is safe for pets and children. Good luck!

It seems like the stinkbugs gave up for a while, but swarmed again after all that rain!
