The most-asked question I've received since becoming a Patch editor has been, "What's being built at the corner of Belair and Silver Spring?"

Until recently, community members had to look on Patch for the answer. Three articles detail the property's transition from the former Lauman's to a future Walgreens:

Yesterday, however, I noticed a bright red sign on the construction site announcing that Walgreens is "coming soon."

Want to share your shot of life in Perry Hall? Add it to the media gallery or email it to me, along with a description, at emilyk@patch.com. Include "Photo of the Day" in the subject line.

We were in denial that such a lousy alternative was going there.

On a more serious note, we also knew about this a couple months ago.

Wonderful, now we have a corporate identity to go with the eye sore that will be vacant in 6 months

Can someone please tell me who gets to make these important decisions about what fills the properties in Perry Hall? What a waste of a very good location. And YES, I think that Perry Hall has too many pharmacies - two CVS, now two Walgreens, a Rite Aid plus one in every grocery. Come on!!
Disappointed in Perry Hall.

It's the invisible hand of the free market! Capitalism!

Thats all fine and dandy until their greed to dominate the market lowers our property value. How many vacant store fronts are there in the area???

Maybe we can put a Bill Bateman's across the street in the old bank and change Mars to Safeway.

How about a campaign to bring a Trader Joe's to the area? I'd be up for that.

That would fit perfectly in the SuperFresh building

If any of these companies thought it would be profitable, they would have a store there already...all the campaigns or wishing and hoping mean squat...these companies care only about how much money they can suck out of us...

you would think this is the case, but there's been no shortage of examples of over-expansion/saturation of markets in consumer goods.

All you can do if you disapprove of what's being built in Perry Hall is to ignore it and hope they go under.
Then hope your tax dollars aren't going to pay for it.

I just went to a massive Whole Foods in Charlottesville VA this past weekend, and I almost fainted at the supply of high quality mostly organic food that was there. It'd never completely replace the standard grocery store but it'd get a big chunk of our business, anyway.

When a corporation can buy a 3.25 million dollar parcel, completely demolish 2 recently constructed buildings and put up a new drug store, they are gouging their customers for obscene profits.

How about that McDonald's in Rosedale, down Route 1. They literally tore it down just to rebuild it. Seriously.

The same thing is going on at the one on Joppa Rd, in Loch Raven area. Oh, these poor corporations. This just irrationally aggravates me.

Nobody has even mentioned the collateral damage to local small business, I will pick a locally owned business over any chain, anytime/any place

I don't think there is such a thing as locally owned business anymore. And sorry to say if the mom and pop stores are pricier or at a bad location I am not going. Hate to say that but my time and money is more precious in this day and age.
