PHOTOS: Perry Hall Shop Hosts Rescued Dog Adoptions
Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter showcased rescued dogs at Pet Valu on Saturday.
Wearing vests that read "ADOPT ME," a small group of rescued dogs greeted customers at the Pet Valu in Honeygo Village Center on Saturday afternoon.
They were joined by volunteers and foster pet parents during one of Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter's Dog Adoption Days.
Volunteer Melissa Trotman said she tries to organize adoption events at least once a month and has held several at Pet Valu.
"They love it here," Trotman said. "Today we took them all for walks at Honeygo Run to get them some exercise before the event."
Most of the dogs up for adoption are pit bull mixes, she said, adding that despite the breed's aggressive reputation, volunteers find them to be "sweet, gentle" and "great family dogs."
Christy Fear fosters Bumble Bee, a pit bull mix, through the BARCS program.
"I keep her with my family so they can bring more dogs into the shelter," Fear said. "I have a 5-year-old child at home and she's great with children."
In addition to finding prospective adoptive pet parents, Trotman said the events are meant to raise awareness about the shelter.
"We need people to adopt, volunteer and, of course, we always welcome donations," Trotman said.
More information is available on the BARCS website.

My family went to an adoption show last year when we were looking for a dog. I understand they have to ask MANY questions about the person tryig to get a dog. the problem was that the lady said it would be AT LEAST 4-6 weeks before we could get one so we spent $800 and got a puppy a week later. I think it is important to not make people wait so long if they want to adopt a dog.

Marty, BARCS does same day adoptions. Most other shelters and rescues in the area complete adoptions within the same week taking some measures to make sure that the dog is a good fit for the family. Being patient through the adoption process is an important part of supporting the organizations that are trying be part of the solution rather than part of the community problem of too many homeless animals.
Best of luck with your new puppy!
