Dog Attack at Honeygo Park Hospitalizes Man

Police responded to an attack between leashed dogs Saturday afternoon in Perry Hall.

A walk in the park turned violent Saturday afternoon.

A dog on a leash attacked another dog on a leash at about 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 17, at Honeygo Run Regional Park in the 9000 block of Honeygo Boulevard in Perry Hall, according to Capt. Michael Balog of the White Marsh police precinct.

The owner of the dog that was attacked attempted to pull off the other dog. The owner was scratched and bit in the process. He was taken by ambulance to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, Balog said.

The person walking the attacking dog told police it was in "doggie foster care," he said. No one was arrested or charged in the incident.

No further information on the breeds of dogs involved was available as of Monday morning.

Honeygo Run Regional Park is a popular dog walking area and the future location of a public dog park. Leashed animals are currently permitted throughout the park.

Dog gone bad. Where are his parents?

What I don't appreciate is trying to run on the track and someone allowing their dog a ten foot lead across the entire walkway, slowing everyone down or allowing the dog access to my children, slobbering on their clothes and jumping on them. If pet owners want to be welcomed and appreciated, simple common courtesies should be observed. I expect my children to be well behaved and mind their space and manners in public and I expect pet owners to do the same.

Dogs arent the problem on the track its the old people that dont walk single file and the kids on razor scooters that are unsupervised.

PerryHallParent - Well what I don't appreciate is parents who let their children run over to my dog, grab her, her leash, etc. without asking, as well as throw rocks and mulch (Yes, I have had this happen as we stood resting on the sidewalk). I would never let my dog go to any dog or human without asking first. EVERYONE (dog owners, parents, runners, etc.) need to be "well behaved and mind their space and manners in public".

Well, then you are being responsible. Most people aren't. It's people like us who make it a pleasant place. My child is curious, but I have taught all my children to stay away from animals unless invited with a friendly request or greeting. DGAF also brings up a valid point about people who take up the whole track. There are many of us going at different speeds at all times. I can't imagine allowing a child there on a scooter unsupervised! Hopefully, with time, things will work out, but in the meantime, I run there selectively.

Wonder where the Doggie Day Care bus line runs.

I think what DGAF meant about "not walking single file" is that OFTEN you will be walking in one direction on the path and a group of people (obviously together) coming the opposite way will not move behind one another to let both directions pass. It's as if they think because they have more people, they "get the path"!!!

I think the lack of common courtesy and respect for others is the bigger issue. Everyone needs to remember they all have a responsibility when out in public, whether it's to control a pet, child or ones self.

Common courtesy (and common sense) is no longer common in our devolving 'me first' culture.

There is a large grass area below the soccer field where many people take their dogs. Why not prohibit people from taking their dogs, people roller blades and bikes from the walking path. There is an adequate play area for the kids. And the large grass area should be turned in to a dog park. People's who are trying to get or stay in shape should be protected. Thank you!

DGAF, If you haven't seen people going through there on roller blades, then you haven't been up there very often. I see them at least 2-3 times a month on the track. Just for fun, I'll have to get mine out and go for a skate up there. Should I wave?

I have seen roller blades at this park as recently as this past Sunday. Perhaps I was in a time warp or something?

One time, a kid knocked my walkman off my hip as I rollerskated around the path.

I wonder how these dogs would have acted if McGruff was there. We probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

I remember the time when my bell-bottom pants knocked over two joggers. They were really mad.

Unruly dogs are a concern and a reason I wish the proposed dog park had another location. I'm a walker, and I have been on the track a number of times when people with dogs encounter other people with dogs or just someone interested in talking about their dog and they stand in the middle of the track. I stay to the right to let runners go by - people who stop should get off the track. People using the track for its intended purpose shouldn't have to risk twisting an ankle to run/walk off the track to avoid those who shouldn't be there in the first place. Runners shouldn't need to go to the high school track to run; they'd already be there if it was convenient. It should be a multipurpose track. But it is annoying when unattended kids or dogs and their owners become a hazard to people walking/running on the track. Let common sense and courtesy prevail. It's a little like this forum, where some of you should exit because you aren't serving any useful purpose.

Of course they stand on the track. Venture more than a few inches off the pavement and be prepared to clean the dog poop off of your shoes.

BTW, the track is convenient, but it is also populated with people with dogs (and it is not unusual to see dog poop on or near the track), kids on bikes/scooters, people walking 4-5 lanes abreast on the inside lanes. As with the road, on the track slower traffic should keep right.

What a lot of silly complaints over nothing. I am so happy to see children, older people, DOGS, and happy people using this lovely little park. The tragic people of N.Y. and N.J. would love to be able to enjoy our great park. " Smile and the world will smile with you, Frown and you frown alone" (My interpretation) KGM
