Juveniles Attempt Break-In Near Joppa, Silver Spring
A helicopter and K-9 unit responded to a burglary shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 10, police said.
Police, aided by a helicopter and K-9 unit, swarmed a Perry Hall neighborhood near Joppa and Silver Spring roads Tuesday evening after a reported burglary, police said.
Shortly after 7 p.m., a homeowner on the unit block of Spring Creek Way reported that three juveniles had attempted to cut open a side window screen, according to Officer Mark Dorsey of the Parkville police precinct.
There was no entry and nothing was taken, Dorsey said.
A police helicopter and dogs assisted with the search for suspects, but no one was found or arrested, he said.
Did you notice the helicopter over the area? What do you do to defend your home against burglary? Tell us in the comments.

12 ga. shotgun works best, but a 16 ga. shotgun would also do the job.

That would be inhumane. A shotgun, 12 or 16 ga., might kill them. Just shoot them in the knee with a .22 pistol. They won't break in another home again.

I saw a young kid running down Ridgelys Choice Dr from Joppa Rd towards Belair booking it with a small flashlight and then he turned down Timahoe. It seemed odd to me he had a small flashlight and was alone running down the street. About 10 min later the helicopter was out. Im thinking I should have called the police now.

Ridiculous? I think not. If criminals knew their crimes came with real consequences there would be a lot less crime. If someone was able to get into my home they wouldn't be walking back out.

There seems to have been a lot of break-ins in the past two weeks in Perry Hall in what have usually been pretty quiet neighborhoods. I am extremely concerned and would like to see the local news acknowledge the issue. If I didn't read Patch I would have no idea and one of the robberies was on my street. If more people were aware of what was going on I think more people would be calling the police if something looked suspicious. I would also like the police to say what they are doing to try to prevent it.
It doesn't appear any suspects have even been identified in any of these cases. I am hopeful they are all related and we can sleep easier once they are caught.

If ya all catch the little bugger, tie him up and blindfold him. Throw him in the trunk of your car and drive north out into the country, maybe 30 or 40 miles.. Find a remote, dark spot and let him out of the trunk. Release him and drive off.
I've done this with a few pesky squirrels and none of them have ever come back.

This sort of thing is the fault of the schools in our county. Don't they teach the children that taking other people's property isn't nice? Millions of our tax dollars go to pay these teachers who only work 6 hours a day and are off for 3 months every summer, you would think the least they could do is make sure our children know not to steal from others. Lord knows they certainly are not teaching them to read and write.

That's ridiculous! Whether or not you think teachers do a good job with the 3 R's, teaching kids honesty and respect is the job of the parents! Teachers spend (by your numbers) only 1,080 hours a year with kids (180 days X 6 hours/day). Parents should be spending the rest of the time teaching right and wrong.

It's not the teachers responsibility to teach kids not to steal. That and the teaching of other moral values and character are the responsibility of the parents. It is the responsibility of the school system and the teachers to teach reading, writing and arithmetic. Nothing else. But you are on to something, slightly. Our school system and teachers are not as much concerned with teaching the basics but have intruded into the parents responsibility of teaching kids proper values. The school system today is more into social engineering and teaching homosexuality and other far let liberal agendas and values. I want the state and the school system to butt out and teach nothing but the the aforementioned, not indoctrinate kids with revisionist history and social agendas. Remember your kids aren't your kids any longer, they are property of the state. The state tells you what to feed them, what vaccinations your kids must have, it;s ok to be gay.........etc etc.

Maybe so, but I don't need a teacher teaching kids those types of values. That's not their job. Reading. Writing. Arithmetic is, get it?
Do you ever wonder why Asian school kids are much smarter than American kids in mathematics and science and many times possess better reading skills and often speak better english than American kids? It's their culture. They concentrate on the reading, writing and arithmetic not social issues. Right now I can find a 2nd grade girl from the middle east whom I know of that possess the reading, language and social skills far beyond that of most high school graduates in this area. American kids don't need to be taught in school that it's ok to have two daddies. This is why they are so successful and why China is creating more engineers than any other country on the planet.
Once we figure this out we might start having a brighter economy and future in this country. I doubt if we ever will do so as there has been a conscious effort in this country to dumb school kids down and attack issues of moral character and religion.
{Sarcasm On} It's much more important be PC in this country than successful. {Scarcasm Off}

Maybe so? Despicable comment about other humans.
The school is their to serve everyone, green, brown, white, gay, religious, straight, not religious, etc.The public school is to teach and expose children to the world as it is, not how you believe it should be. Asian children have high parental involvement in their child's education, thus the good result.
Other opportunities like home schooling and private schools exist for those who wish to narrow their child's educational and cultural experience.

Nothing despicable about what I have said at all. The school is there to educate all, not to indoctrinate and pursue social engineering.
At least you were able to comprehend my point about parental involvement in their kids education although you failed to acknowledge that other cultures do not embrace left wing ideology in their education systems. Such formula produces the results I believe should be achieved in American schools. It's not the duty or responsibility of schools to teach such issues, that belongs to the family.
Yet you would suggest that those taxpayers who do not adapt to your beliefs get out of the school system and go elsewhere. I would say that's a pretty despicable and intolerant comment itself. I would suggest that many whom have been educated in the manner you advocate do not see the world as it truly is. Our government and school system have failed us. They see the world in a rather naive and delusional manner.

Educating all means teaching them about all that exists, not moralizing about what is acceptable behavior as you do.

Paul what you have not comprehended is that you seem to be off topic and I do not wish to purse this further. Maybe in another time and place. I am also fairly certain that you would not be as outraged if someones religious beliefs of church was attacked.
I would suggest that if you wish the public schools teach other than reading, writing, arithmetic, American and world history and willing to knock out the social engineering classes that maybe you might endeavor to open up some type of business in which parents who seek such education could send their kids after hours. I wonder how successful such a concern would be. Not very, I suspect.
As for pulling my kids out of school and heading to private schools, that would be perfectly acceptable with me if the county, state and federal government would absolve me annually of any and all taxes paid into the public school system.
I find this rather funny as in 9th grade I was in an advanced algebra class. I was in an accident and out of school for a month. Most of my teacher in junior high I found to be rather odd or stupid and not good teachers at all and unwilling to help. (Not much better in HS either) In this class I seemed to be lagging about 6 weeks behind. While home a senior from Cardinal Gibbons High tutored me. When I returned to school I was well ahead of the class and often corrected the teachers mistakes.

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs. The predominant usage in modern English refers to persons hostile to those of differing sex, race, ethnicity, religious belief or spirituality, nationality, language, sexual orientation, and age; and to those from a different region, with non-normative gender identity, those who are homeless, and those with various medical disorders, particularly behavioural and addictive disorders. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or world views.

You folks have really gotten off topic. However, the schools do teach that if someone has worked hard for their property it does not matter. According to modern teaching, someone who does not have as much has a right to that property and the government will help them take it. Those who are impatient just take it themselves. The Courts teach them it is OK because most juveniles DO NOT serve time for their first few breaking and entries. After all, that could hurt their self-esteem. Wlcome to Maryland justice.
