VERY pleased that our country is going in this direction and that the majority of fellow Americans recognize that and want to see us move forward too.

Very happy after last night:
1. Threw out multiple Tea Party members
2. Kept in Pro-Choice members
3. Voted for Equality with Questions 4 & 6
4. Increased women in the Senate

and the Bush Tax Cuts that cost us around 500-600 mil over those 4 years in lost revenue, and the Middle Eastern wars, not sure how far those set us back. At least a trillion with the Afghanistan surge, I'd suspect.
oh, and it cost us 5 trillion, not 6.

I have seen nothing improve for me. I'm on social security and a pension. These have basically stayed the same but prices have gone up on everything. I see no hope for the future unless we start cutting back on wasteful spendings.

Like reducing our Social Security cost? Probably reduce Medicare too?

I've seen nothing improve. The value of my home has dropped significantly. Fortunately, I don't have any plans on moving. Even if I wanted to, wages have been "frozen" and "I'm thankful to have a job" is the new raise. Medical costs have skyrocketed and I am constantly bombarded by schools asking for extra supplies and tons of fundraising activities due to not enough money to go around. Food costs are escalating at an alarming rate ($6 a pound for ground beef? Really? $4+ for a gallon of milk?) and we are supposed to be happy that gas prices are "down" to $3.50 a gallon. Hopefully, I can still scrape enough together to try and take a class, as long as those slots aren't taken up by the children of people here illegally (but it's not the kids' fault *eyeroll*). Bitter? Not really, but angry? Heck yes.

I agree with you 100%. I've had my hours cut from 40 to 20, my husbands health insurance is more than doubling starting in January. We would like to retire, but unfortunately cannot afford to. Can barely make ends meet now.

With respect to your comment on the school funding, I'd sure like to know where all the money is going that was supposedly earmarked to fund schools from the State Lottery and also the three slots casinos that are currently operating. The State Comptroller office needs to conduct a full audit of the funding that goes to schools and what happens with those funds after they are sent to the schools, if they are even getting to the schools, most likely not down to the classroom level. And the voters passed Question 7!? I'm willing to bet that hardly any of that money that will be raked in from the expanded casino gambling will make it to the classrooms as promoted by O'Malley and the State Legislature. An audit of those funds is severely needed before any additional funding is directed towards the school systems. There's some kind of big shell game going on!

My opinion based on past performance is that things will get worse....a lot worse!!! Sick to death of an administration that can't and won't produce a budget (required by the constitution), stop spending more money than it earns...oh the list goes on!!!! Again, my opinion, the blind Obama sheep will be led to slaughter along with the rest of us that saw through this administrations tax and spend sham!!! If we ran our house the way this president has run the country, we would all be homeless!!!

Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of the election. My believe is, if Mr Momney had won this election, even through he was not my choice, I would still support him. I want our country to survive, we must show our support and if we have different views, first show respect when you voice your opinion. I do not like personal attacks on anyone. Let's work together, please.

Joan,
Are you better off today than you were four years ago?
I bet you can not answer that YES.
Real estate values are down, values in pension plans & 401Ks are down. Cost of goods, and energy are way up.
obama is a failure,
If congress and obama fail to solve the budge problems in January Taxes will go UP for everyone. Spending cuts will be imposed. Many lay offs.
obama is a disaster.
obama care which requires employers to provide health insurance for all full time workers will have many employers cutting many down to 30 hours a week.
The cost of health insurance is up an average of over $2,000 year.

I disagree with JTF.
Real estate values have leveled after dropping from 2006 to 2009.
Values in 401ks are not down, they are up significantly in the last four years.
If congress fails to do its job, then tax cuts expire. Taxes have not been raised over the last four years.
Obamacare does not require all employers to provide healthcare.
The cost of health insurance has risen under every president.
Thus Obama is a success.

I long for the "good-old days" pre-Obama when the stock market was tumbling down to 6,000, job losses were at 800,000 per month, major corporations were folding, my friends were losing their jobs with companies they worked at for years, and we were at war in 2 countries with no revenue to pay for it. Things were better then.

I'm not optimistic at all. Things will stay the same but they are more likely to decline even further. You have a Congress that can't negotiate or compromise on a budget, a Commander-inChief that is hell bent on reducing the military leaving us vulnerable, a president that wants to give everything to the lower classes at the expense of the middle class which we'll be paying for in much higher taxes and stagnant job growth. I hope everyone is looking forward to the next four non-glorious years of the Obama regime. On top of all that, don't even believe what this guy spews from his, mouth.

I think this election was a wakeup call for the Republicans. They have to be more inclusive of a changing demographic population. In some way as a woman, I felt left out. Maybe the next election, the Republicans will nominate SOMEONE that connects with the American population and that includes all, rich, poor, middle class, and all ethnic groups.

I'm appalled the Republican party of today has such disdain for women, blacks, Latinos (like me), the middle class, and muslims. The GOP made our country into a giant laughing-stock over the last couple years, thanks to the Tea Party and other extremists.
Since the demographics in the state of Maryland are changing ever so drastically. After Roscoe Bartlett was throw out on Tuesday it should be a wake-up call to the last Republican Congressman in Maryland, Andy Harris. He should be worried about MD-1. By the next census that district is going to be gerrymandered a lot.

I don't see how anyone can possibly say the Republican party has disdain towards any race or ethnic group. I consider myself a Conservative (not a Republican) but nonetheless, can anyone give an example of how Republicans have disdain for any of the above groups? The people of the Tea Party are in no way extremists. Here are what conservatives of the Republican party believe in respect to the following groups:
1) Women: Conservatives believe in equal rights for women but many women will never vote Republican because they feel it is within their rights to kill their unborn child. Republicans believe except in very rare circumstances (i.e. mother's life in danger), that an unborn child has a right to life. Each and every one of us started out as a few cells with our unique genetic code and should feel grateful that our mothers sacrificed to deliver us and to raise us. As a Catholic (all Christians should feel the same way), it is my faithful duty to stand up for the innocent lives of unborn children in this country...

Allstar, where does one start? I will not use the words Republican or Democrat like you have as those parties have had member switch sides when the didn't get what they liked. I will use the terms conservatives, moderates, and liberals instead. I will reserve Tea Party as necessary. You have not espoused what Conservatives believe, instead you have espoused what you believe Conservatives believe. However, that is not the same Conservative Party that was brought to the dance by Republicans
1) Conservatives believed that women should not vote and should not get equal pay for equal work. They also continue to believe that women should not have control over their bodies. Conservatives have lost on the first counts due to moderates and liberals. Abortion is legal in this country and conservatives continue to fight the law. What is ironic is that conservatives believe the child should be born but then want nothing to do with the upbringing of that child. Your beliefs are your beliefs and you are welcome to them. Liberals believe you should keep them to yourself.
AllStar

2) Blacks: The Republican party is the party that led blacks out of slavery and who fought for civil rights against the Democrats of the time. Democratic policies in places like Baltimore city have decimated the black community. Blacks are more likely than other ethnic groups to live in poverty, to be on welfare, to be unemployed, to be convicted of crimes, to have children out of wedlock, and to have abortions. How's that Democratic party working out for you? Republicans want to reduce the black community's dependency on government and bring them out of poverty. We also want to repair the family structure that has been destroyed by progressive policies.
FIFA_archived
10:35 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012
2) Blacks: Conservatives are the party that wanted to keep slaves. Conservatives are the party that wanted to limit Black civil rights. Your attempt at saying it was Democrats who opposed that, but that is disingenuous and you know that. To this day Conservatives continue to attempt to limit Black and poor voting rights through voter suppression. Long lines at poor and black precincts, voter ID, etc. Conservatives opposed interracial marriages.
AllStar
1:15 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012
3) Latinos (like Born to be free): Republicans fully support immigrants of any country who come here legally, work hard, and contribute positively to our society. We do not support immigrants who break our law by coming illegally and who are bankrupting our hospitals and educational system. Ironically, most Hispanics (67%) unwittingly voted for a president who believes in the exact same ideals as the leaders of the Hispanic countries they have fled from.

Conservatives speak out of both sides of their mouth when they say they do not support illegal immigrants. The businesses (mostly Republican leaning) hire these folks at discounted rates thus saving everyone money.
The slap at the President for suggesting he believes " the exact same ideals as the leaders of the Hispanic countries they have fled from." suggests your bias.
AllStar

4) Middle class: Republicans believe in cutting taxes for the middle class, thus allowing them to keep more of their hard earned money. We also believe in cutting taxes for wealthier Americans so they can invest more of their money in the economy, which greatly benefits the middle class. Obama's plan to raise taxes on the wealthy will only hurt those in the upper middle class. The wealthiest Americans and corporations many times pay less than most middle class Americans due to loopholes, investments, etc. How can you explain companies like General Electric making several billion dollars of profit in the US yet not paying a dime in taxes? Obama's plan will only hurt the middle class, driving them towards poverty while the wealthy will get wealthier.
FIFA_archived

Your idea of Republicans believe in cutting taxes for everyone and the result will be trickle down has been debunked. Wealthy people have not invested more in the economy as tax rates have fallen, they have kept it in the bank.
"Obama's plan will only hurt the middle class, driving them towards poverty while the wealthy will get wealthier." You accuse Obama of exactly what has happened to the middle class as a result of the Bush tax cuts. The wealthy have gotten wealthier as the income and wealth gap has grown due to those cuts.

5) Muslims: I think I represent most Conservatives and Tea Party members when I say that we have the utmost respect for peaceful Muslims in this country and around the world. Our problem is with radical throwback Muslims (i.e. Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, Hamas) who seek to destroy Israel and create an Islamic Caliphate. These are the same Muslims who think it's God's will to murder their wives if disobedient, murder Christians, murder homosexuals, and murder each other. Our president supports the Al Qaeda rebels overthrowing leaders of countries such as Egypt who have been staunch allies of the US and Israel yet all the while does nothing about Iran and their puppet Assad who is mass murdering his people in Syria. Therefore, his policy has been to protect the leaders who hate Israel and the US but attack the leaders who either support or are neutral to Israel and the US.

"I think I represent most Conservatives and Tea Party members when I say that we have the utmost respect for peaceful Muslims in this country". ROTFLMAO. AllStar, nothing could be further from the truth. Throughout the country Conservatives and Tea Party members have opposed the building of mosques at every turn. Many Conservatives and Tea Party members refer to the President as "Muslim" and that is not done as a compliment. Half of all Republicans when polled believe the President is a Muslim. So what if he was? "Our president supports the Al Qaeda rebels", to imagine your saying that is beyond belief.
All that said, many Conservatives do not like Gay people, do not like people of color, do not like women's right to choose, do not believe in equal pay for equal work for women, do believe in rewarding the wealthy, do not believe in global climate change, do believe in prayer in school, do believe our President was born in another country, do believe everything they hear on Fox, do believe everything they hear on Limbaugh, etc.
The proof, just read the posts on the Patch. I do not believe you can say with a straight face that is not true.
The good news after all that ranting by me, is that if Conservatives don't change, they will lose their voice. Liberals and moderates are spreading out from the West towards the Midwest and squeezing the South between Florida and the Northeast. You may be doomed.

We oppose the building of a mosque on sacred ground in New York City where thousands of Americans were murdered by radical members of the Islamic faith as well as other grandiose mosques funded or led by Muslim groups with ties to terrorist organizations that look to transform entire communities into Muslim strongholds. Many conservatives rightly worry about Obama's real faith and alliances due to his actions as president, his Muslim upbringing, and his membership at a black-separatist, antisemitic Church. As for Libya, the rebel leader admitted last year that many of the rebels we were arming and supporting were al Qaeda members:
Mr al-Hasidi insisted his fighters "are patriots and good Muslims, not terrorists," but added that the "members of al-Qaeda are also good Muslims and are fighting against the invader".
Conservatives like gay people but we believe that their actions are morally wrong and shouldn't be promoted by our society as normal and good behavior. We believe that homosexual behavior should be kept private and out of the public square. We don't want to be discriminated against for believing that homosexuality is a choice and sinful. We don't want our children indoctrinated in schools that homosexuality is normal and should be celebrated.
AllStar

Conservatives believe everyone should be paid fairly based upon their abilities and performance and that Pay rate has nothing to do with whether you are a man or woman, black or white, etc. The very wealthy in this country pay 15% tax on dividends, which makes up their income, so increasing taxes on the "rich" ($200K/yr individual, $250K/yr family) hurts the upper middle class and small business owners the most while leaving the truly wealthy unscathed. We believe in rewarding productiveness. I believe in a flat income tax for all Americans. Why should I be deterred from working extra hours because I could bump up into a higher tax bracket and actually make less?
We do not believe that man-made global climate change is a significant threat to our country. The earth has gone through several periods of climate change in the past independent of human activity. Scientists touting global warming were shown to be altering data to support their hypotheses so they started calling it climate change instead. Ice is melting in the north pole but increasing in the south pole. Insane politicians are even blaming Hurricane Sandy on climate change!
There is nothing wrong with prayer in school if the local community supports it. Allowing children to pray does not establish a national religion or prohibit the practice of other religions.
The only show I watched on Fox was Freedom Watch, which has been taken off the air. I also never listen to Limbaugh.
