POLL: What Belongs Next to the Library?

A committee plans to make a recommendation for the prospective use of county land along Honeygo Boulevard in Perry Hall.

A land-swap deal in the plans of a proposed 50-home development near the Perry Hall Library could result in a swath of land being deeded for public use.

County Councilman David Marks has appointed a committee to make a recommendation on the use of the expected 32,500 square feet of space, directly southeast of the library.

Several community members offered their suggestions in the comments of the article, Committee to Review Land Use Near Perry Hall Library, as well as on Facebook.

Check out what they had to say and tell us your suggestions in the poll and in the comments.

Some have also suggested simply leaving the area alone or building an additional outdoor reading area.

open space would be nice...the housing market is over saturated in the area, driving real estate values down...why build anything more?

I find it funny that many of the comments that have been left on the article and on Facebook have suggested some sort of open space or a natural area, yet that is not one of the options in this poll. I can only recall one comment suggesting a senior center and that did make it as an option on the poll...Strange.

I am for not building any structure on the land! Planting native trees and shrubs and using the area as a natural playscape for families or a small trail with a reading area maybe a butterfly garden. The library could use this land for more outdoor education and library patrons could use it as a contemplative area to read. These suggestions are inexpensive, (less taxes) and beneficial to the community and our environment.

Missy Lauterbach, I've added open space to the poll at your request. Thanks for the suggestion.

To add to the open space, why can't we put a gazebo there and make it a town center feel where we can have events like jazz in the park. Something more community feeling and full of nature than what the Avenue provides for summer events.

Check out what the new Arbutus complex looks like with a senior center, recreation facilities and a library as community resources.

I like the suggestions for an open park for all people(especially the elderly) to come together and chat and enjoy nature. BUT, the county will not get any tax money from this so I don't think it will happen.
Since there are so many in the area with dogs, maybe a Pet Smart would be nice.

The Perry Hall is virtually surrounded by open space (Gunpowder State Park). What there is not enough of is something to keep teens out of trouble. The closest thing we have to a teen center is the White Marsh Mall.
You've heard me say it before: enough with the Senior Centers- teens need a place to hang out!

Perry Hall is becoming way overcrowded. It's a nightmare to travel around PH on a Saturday. Why must something be built on every inch of dirt. I do like the idea of something that fosters an outdoor environment for music, reading, or movie nights...

As far as teens are concerned, they need a strong presence of a parent, guardian, or someone who at least cares, before they need a place to hang out. There are plenty of things for teenagers to do then to just get dumped off at the mall because their parents don't feel like dealing with them. Which is exactly the reason why our family never steps foot in that place on a Friday or Saturday night.
