Second Perry Hall Walgreens to Open Winter 2012

Perry Hall has no shortage of chain drug stores—and soon there will be one more.
Next winter, a Walgreens is expected to open on the site of the demolished Direct Home Furnishings at 8650 Belair Road, a company spokesman said.
The new store will be built about two miles south of another Walgreens, which opened in 2000. Two Rite Aid stores, on Belair and Ebenezer roads, and two CVS stores, about two-and-a-half miles apart on Belair Road, also serve the community.
Wayne Lauman, past owner of Direct Home Furnishings, formerly known as Lauman's Furniture, sold the property to the Walgreens corporation in 2010.
Lauman, a longtime Perry Hall resident who currently lives in Ocean City and runs deep sea fishing charters, said that he began searching for a buyer for the struggling furniture business in 2009.
"I had to generate some income ... we received some interest from Walgreens," he said.
Robert Elfinger, a Walgreens spokesman, said he could not comment on the geographic spacing of stores or how locations were chosen.
The new store, about 14,550 square feet, will include a pharmacy, a grocery section and "aisles of everyday essential items," Elfinger said.
The store will join 7,680 other Walgreens stores in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, he added.

Good Grief!!!! Just another conjested corner. Who need another store in the area. Why can't someone take an interest in the community and build something for the youth - like arecreational center. We need to address some of the issues our youngsters are facing. Does anyone care???

I am a bit tired of new drug stores! I am happy that the company is investing money in Perry Hall, but I would love to see some more unique businesses come to the area. I agree Rosemary, it would be nice to see some type of youth activity center. The shopping center by the new CVS (by honeygo) is completely vacant, it would be nice to see some businesses open in that area too.

There are a few rumors of things moving up to that new CVS shopping center. I'm guessing that the old CVS closes when this new Walgreen's opens across the street.

Same here, there are at least 10 better places that could go up there. Another drug store? Really???

We have 2 rite aids, 2 CVS'S and soon 2 Walgreens within 2 miles of each other. WHY? Btw CVS rules. They never have lines and the pharmacys are more friendly and faster. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO walgreens

Does anyone recognize market over saturation anymore? Adding these businesses does NOTHING for the area except to thin out the customer population at anyone of these stores? There has to be 25 discount pharmacies between the beltway and Gunpowder along Bel Air Rd.

The first rumor was that it was going to be a Mosque. Then a WaWa gas station. Glad to find out what it really will be. WELCOME Walgren. So there will be some competition; isn't that a good thing? And I'm sure that the chains look at the demographics in great detail.

They couldn't possibly be looking at Demographics. Unless they fully intend to shut down the Walgreen's that's ONE MILE away. That's the only way this makes sense in the long term for them.
Either way, it stinks as far as I'm concerned. Another new place that's all but worthless to me.

I think it is a good thing,I live in perryhall it is very congested with PEOPLE, so there is a
