Sept. 20: 'The Wire' Writer Rafael Alvarez Coming to Perry Hall

The former Baltimore Sun reporter will speak in honor of the Perry Hall Book Club's 10th anniversary.

The Perry Hall Book Club, a fixture of the Perry Hall Library, has invited a literary guest to help celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Rafael Alvarez, the former Baltimore Sun reporter who gained national acclaim as a contributing writer for HBO's "The Wire," is scheduled to speak in the library's main meeting room at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20. The event is free and community members are invited to attend.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Perry Hall Library, Alvarez is expected to share his experiences as a lifelong Baltimore resident and information about recent writing projects. His novella, "The Ganges of Baltimore," will be released this fall, and his ongoing serialized novella "The Long Vietnam of My Soul" can be found on North Baltimore Patch.

His appearance is part of an ongoing series that kicked off in April with former crime scene investigator and Towson University professor Dana Kollman. In June, author Zippy Larson discussed the Baltimore years of Wallis Warfield Simpson, who married England's King Edward.
