Three Democrats Vying for Rep. Harris' Seat

No Republicans have registered to run against the congressman in the primary election.

While Rep. Andy Harris will likely run unopposed in April's primary election, at least three Democrats are vying to oppose him in November.

Wendy Rosen of Cockeysville, John LaFerla of Chestertown and Kim Letke of Joppa have each registered as candidates in Maryland's 1st District congressional race, The Daily Times reports. The district includes the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland, as well as parts of Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford counties.

Anticipated Democratic candidate, state Sen. Jim Mathias, however, said he does not plan to run, the article states.

Former Democratic congressman Frank Michael Kratovil Jr. had been considered a viable opponent to Harris in the 2012 election. Kratovil defeated Harris, then a state senator, to serve as a representative between 2009 and 2010. Harris defeated Kratovil in the 2010 election.

Kratovil, however, announced in November that he would not be seeking reelection and was appointed in December to the District Court for Queen Anne’s County, Patch reported.

If the election were today, would you vote to reelect Rep. Andy Harris, or would you vote for one of the three Democratic contenders? Tell us in the comments.

Harris serves no one except as a gofer for Grover Norquist and his little pledge club and takes his orders from the Club for Growth, of which I doubt many of his constituents are members; Wendy Rosen was a Republican while the Bush administration was driving the country over a cliff and now wants to be a democrat for some reason and who knows about Kim Letke. Hmmm! Guess that leaves LaFerla.

Vote for John LaFerla. He understands women's issues which the Republicans are trying to deny. Trust Women, Defend Choice
