Union, County Reach Contract Agreement
Union representing nearly 1,600 County employees agrees to increased pension contributions in return for guaranteed pay increases and no layoffs or furloughs for the next three years.
The union representing correctional workers, highway supervisors, 911 employees, and office workers has reached an agreement with the county.
As part of the agreement, members of the Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees will receive regular step and longevity increases and a guarantee of no layoffs or furloughs through June 30, 2015 in return for increased pension contributions made by corrections officers.
Currently, corrections officers contribute 8 percent of their salary to the county pension system. As part of the agreement, corrections officers hired after July 1, 2011 will contribute 10 percent.
"I am very pleased that the County was once again able to reach an agreement with labor," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz in a statement released by the county on Wednesday. "It is another indication that our labor groups understand that if we are going to be able to avoid furloughs and layoffs and provide a pension that will actually be there when workers retire we must have a wage and benefit structure that is fair for employees and sustainable for taxpayers."
The county Federation of Public Employees represents about 1,600 employees.
This is the fourth union to reach such an agreement with the county in recent months.
The Baltimore County Professional Fire Fighters Local 1311; the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #25 representing County sheriffs; and the Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses representing Baltimore County nurses have contracts that extend through June 30, 2014.
Currently only the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4 and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees have not reached contractual agreements with the county.
The union agreed to the contract Aug. 29, according to the county statement.

Are you serious tell me one private firm that you contribute 70 % of your pay to retirement. I work for the corrections dept for many years. After my retirement cont. is taken social sec. is taken medicade plus fed tax state tax and local tax im not that well off. its funny when I started for the county many years ago i did envy my friends in private bus i.e. gm. sparrows point, western ele. crown cork and seal etc for the amount of money they were paid compared to myself. they had free health care didnt have to contribute to retirement but now that thier unions drove thier pay so high that a lot of them have gone bankrupt left state or country they are pissed now at those in public serv. who for years were way behind them in pay. they werent bitching then. whats up.

fred, Walker is a Governor, not a county exec. Walker has done well for Wisconsin and that is why he was not recalled. He won the recall with MORE votes than he won in the first election because the taxpayers saw what was being accomplished. No layoff, schools have MORE money and more state union workers have MORE money since they have stopped paying the forced dues. About 40% of the members stopped being extorted by the union thugs.

The Prophet (PBUH) reported that Allah said, "I created my servants in the right religion but devils made them go astray". The Prophet (PBUH) also said, "Each child is born in a state of "Fitrah", then his parents make him a Jew, Christian or a Zoroastrian, the way an animal gives birth to a normal offspring. Have you noticed any that were born mutilated?" (Collected by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim).

And from your own parrot post you seem to never read more than the first words of "It's true that in Muslim cultures, the children of Muslims are generally assumed to be Muslim themselves, according to our research. But all of the sources we looked at described the Islamic faith as not belonging to any particular race, ethnicity or nation. Most of the sources said that whether one truly is a Muslim or not depends on the belief in Muslim teaching and the following of its practices, not whether one is born into the faith."
Read the series by Pipes who is an expert, with an open but for you, small mind.
He was born and named as a Muslim not a Christian.

"Most remarkably, his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, has stated: “My whole family was Muslim.” Her whole family, obviously, includes her half-brother, Barack."
"In June 2006, President Obama related how, after a long religious evolution, he “was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street in the Southside of Chicago one day and affirm my Christian faith” with an altar call. But when his pastor at Trinity United, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, was asked (by author Edward Klein in “The Amateur,” Page 40), “Did you convert Obama from Islam to Christianity?” Mr. Wright finessed the question, whether out of ignorance or discretion, replying enigmatically: “That’s hard to tell.” Note that he did not reject out of hand the idea that Mr. Obama had been a Muslim.
Mr. Obama’s 30-year-old half-brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, who met him twice, told an interviewer in March 2009, “He may be behaving differently due to the position he is in, but on the inside, Barack Obama is Muslim.”

"Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister of Turkey, has said Hussein is a Muslim name. Muslim discussions of Mr. Obama sometimes mention his middle name as a code, with no further comment needed. A conversation in Beirut, quoted in the Christian Science Monitor, captures the puzzlement. “He has to be good for Arabs because he is a Muslim,” observed a grocer. “He’s not a Muslim, he’s a Christian,” replied a customer. No, said the grocer, “He can’t be a Christian. His middle name is Hussein.” The name is proof positive."

(1) Islam is a patrilineal religion: In Islam, the father passes his faith to the children, and when a Muslim man has children with a non-Muslim woman, Islam considers those children Muslim. Mr. Obama’s grandfather and father having been Muslims — the extent of their piety matters not at all — means that in Muslim eyes, Mr. Obama was born a Muslim.
(2) Arabic forenames based on the H-S-N trilateral root: All such names (Husayn or Hussein, Hasan, Hassan, Hassanein, Ahsan and others) are exclusively bestowed on Muslim babies. (The same goes for names based on the H-M-D root.) Mr. Obama’s middle name, Hussein, explicitly proclaims him born a Muslim.
(3) Registered as Muslim at SD Katolik Santo Fransiskus Asisi: Mr. Obama was registered at a Catholic school in Jakarta as “Barry Soetoro.” A surviving document correctly lists him as born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961. In addition, it lists him as having Indonesian nationality and Muslim religion.
(4) Registered as Muslim at SD Besuki: Although Besuki (also known as SDN 1 Menteng) is a public school, Mr. Obama curiously refers to it in “The Audacity of Hope” (Page 154) as “the Muslim school” he attended in Jakarta. Its records have not survived, but several journalists (Haroon Siddiqui of the Toronto Star, Paul Watson of the Los Angeles Times and David Maraniss of The Washington Post) all have confirmed that there, too, he was registered as a Muslim.

John T. so you would rather not have any county services at all because the people actually helping you when you have an emergency or a question about your county taxes or getting your trash picked up get paid a small amount to deal with people like you. TotC: What rock are you living under. The pensions for government workers are some of the best in the workforce. The salary and benefits for these workers have outpaced the private sector, and that's a good thing only if you are a government worker, which from the sounds of it, you are.
