PHOTOS: Water Main Break on Dunfield Road Creates Sinkhole
The break is near the intersection of Dunfield Road and Tapu Court.
UPDATE (11 a.m.)—A 12-inch water main broke, causing a massive road collapse near the intersection of Dunfield Road and Tapu Court near Perry Hall. Residents discovered water and broken pavement in the early morning Saturday.
The stretch of Dunfield Road near its entrance on Belair Road was closed while city workers pumped water out of the sinkhole. At least 15 water services are out at the nearby Beldale Townhomes and 100 services are out on Tapu Court, said Kurt Kocher, a spokesman for the Baltimore City Department of Public Works.
Kocher said he doubts the area will be open by Monday. After city workers repair the pipe, he said, the county is left to repair the street.
"It's crazy," said Thomas Richardson, 38, a cook who lives off of Dunfield Road. "They turned the water off and nobody can brush their teeth or wash their clothes."
