Holocaust Survivor Film Features Perry Hall High

A screening of "See You Soon Again" is scheduled for May 6 during the Maryland Film Festival.

A documentary film about Leo Bretholz, a spry 90-year-old Holocaust survivor and book author, features scenes filmed at Perry Hall High School. "See You Soon Again" is scheduled to be screened during the Maryland Film Festival on Sunday. Find a film clip and photos on the official website. One scene shows 10th graders gathering to hear from Bretholz in the school's cafeteria. "Do you ever get tired of telling your story?" a student asks. "Sometimes I do, yes, but I have to do it for the memory of the victims," Bretholz responds. Bretholz, originally from Austria, spent nearly seven years hiding and fleeing the Nazis across Europe, before immigrating to Baltimore and settling in Pikesville. He has told his story publicly thousands of …

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Leo Bretholz when he came to Annapolis to testify on a bill to prohibit railroad companies that transported prisoners to concentration camps in WWII, from doing business in Maryland until they turn over documents and personal property that rightfully belongs to the victims they transported. I am proud to have supported that bill, now law, that passed both the Senate…   more ›

Student's Essay Wins Prize for Mom Battling Cancer

Perry Hall Elementary student Jordan Sprouse wrote an essay on how his mom is his hero.

A diamond heart pendant may be out of the price range of most fifth-graders, but that's exactly what Perry Hall Elementary student Jordan Sprouse gave his mother last week as an early Mother's Day gift.  Of course, he had some help from his teacher Michelle Boyer and Reeds Jewelers at White Marsh Mall. Boyer helped coordinate the school's participation in a contest with the jewelry store. About 150 fourth- and fifth-graders submitted essays titled, "Why I Love My Mom." "[Jordan's] was the only essay that didn't follow the same pattern. It stood out in that he talked about how his mom was a hero," Boyer said. Last week, Reeds manager Tim Blanton and salesperson Brittney DeFalco awarded Jordan and his mother, Jennifer Sprouse, a diamond …
