Perry Hall Marching Band State Champions

Perry Hall High School “Gator” Marching Band competed at the US Bands Maryland State Championships on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Towson
University.  Perry Hall High School took first place in their division including winning awards for “Best Overall Effect,” “Best Percussion,” and “Best Music.”
Perry Hall HS outscored seven other high school marching bands from across the state: South River, Patapsco, Magruder, Mountain Ridge, Marriotts Ridge, Long Reach, and Boonsboro Senior.

This championship capped a season of success as the marching band took first place in both previous shows at Arundel High School (Sept. 29) and Westminster High School (Oct. 13th). At Arundel HS the band swept the awards winning “Best Overall Effect,” “Best Visual,” “Best Color Guard,” “Best Percussion,” and “Best Music.”  At Westminster HS the band continued to sweep the awards winning “Best Overall Effect,” “Best Visual,” and “Best Music.”

Band Directors Scott Engel and Bryan Welker would like to acknowledge the support provided by our band parents, our school administration including Principal George Roberts, and our student leaders including Drum Majors Liberty San Juan and Mike Koogle.  Additional recognition goes to other staff members Melissa Goetchius (Joppa View ES), Chris DeFord, Ellen DeFord, Jessica Uhrin (Perry Hall HS Alum), Alex Merritt, and Katie Kilroy.

The US Bands (yea.org/ussba) competitive marching circuit provides performance opportunities for marching bands in Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and surrounding states.  Bands compete in divisions based on size and experience.

The Perry Hall High School “Gator” Marching Band concludes its season at National Championships at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Congratulations, that's terrific! I was on my high school drill team in NJ and we also competed. I know how hard Mr. Engel, his staff and all of the students need to work to win an award like this.....
