White Marsh Mall Donating Furniture to Those in Need

As part of our Food Court Refresh, White Marsh Mall is replacing all of the tables and chairs and making space for completely new sets.  While that’s certainly exciting, what we’re doing with the OLD furniture is really sensational!

The old furniture is still in great shape and it would’ve been terrible to simply throw away.  The right thing to do was to find a charitable organization that could put the tables and chairs to good use. But we also knew it was no small task for any group to willingly take nearly 400 sets.  That’s 2000 pieces of furniture! We wanted to find a group that could utilize everything, not just half or three-quarters.

After doing some research, we contacted Streetlite Christian Fellowship in Baltimore.  Among other endeavors, they spend countless hours helping to feed the homeless of Baltimore City and operate a non-profit substance abuse program out of their existing property.

However, Streetlite is getting set to open a new 140,000 square foot facility dubbed the “Streetlite Transformation Center” located in the old Baltimore City municipal repair shop. The new complex will house a communal recreation center, a soup kitchen for the homeless, and facilities to host a variety of public assistance programs including after school events and substance abuse therapy. The tables and chairs will help them immensely and in turn, people in the community and especially those in need.  We feel honored knowing that our old furniture will live on helping others.

The furniture will be picked up on Friday evening (8/24) by volunteers from Streetlite and the new furniture will be in place on Saturday morning.

White Marsh Mall management should be commended for their thoughtful and community minded action of recycling their old food court furniture. Now a worthwhile Christian organization will get a head start on opening their facility. Kudos to White Marsh Mall!!

That is awesome! When CCBC Essex remodeled around 7-8 years ago they dumpstered all their chairs, desks, shelves, ect. They said they feared lawsuits from allowing people to take the old items. Awesome that you guys figured out a way to make it happen.

That furniture was horrible for the food court! It was tough to maneuver around with a stroller/packages, etc. very poorly designed. I am glad they are getting rid if it, and hopefully a more spacious venue will be able to enjoy it. I never did.

I always noticed the old chairs had metal like feet which were loud and seemed to always stick to the tile floor and the get stuck in the grooves.
