More than 25 years after closing its doors, thousands of Perry Hall residents still remember the rich and creamy, freshly churned ice cream at Berg's Farm Dairy Store. Located on the northwest corner of Joppa and Belair Roads, the dairy farm, store and restaurant served the Perry Hall area between 1932 and 1982. In 1986, the last of the farm was demolished and replaced with a Weis Markets grocery store. The next time you drive through Kentucky Fried Chicken on Belair Road, try to imagine yourself in a stagecoach instead. Nearly 200 years ago, that same piece of property was a bustling roadside hotel known as Bishop's Inn. The two-story, stone and stucco covered house was built by William Bishop in 1813. At the time, Belair Road was a busy thoroughfare that connected Baltimore City with Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville. The inn was sold at public auction in 1845, most likely to a man named Joseph Brooks. Believe it or not, for eight decades, Perry Hall was home to a major mechanized factory which produced everything from lace to embellished pillow cases. Many long-time Perry Hall residents will remember driving by the Baltimore Embroidery Factory on Belair Road, a long red brick building where the Walgreens stands today. It all started when Lina Barth Tanner, a Swiss lacemaker, moved to Perry Hall with her family in 1911. Three years later, she, her husband and brothers opened the Baltimore Embroidery Factory.
