Perry Hall Mission BBQ To Open Nov. 16

The Perry Hall location will be followed by 10 more restaurants across the region.

UPDATE (5 a.m., Nov. 1)—Mission BBQ plans to open its second location at the Festival at Perry Hall Shopping Center at 4132 East Joppa Road this month.

Between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Nov. 16, it will first open its doors to the public with all proceeds being donated to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. On Nov. 19, a grand opening celebration, ribbon cutting and live performance of the National Anthem is planned, according to a release from the restaurant.

“We’re ecstatic to join the Perry Hall community and support American Heroes—police, military, fire and first responders," Mission BBQ co-owner Steve Newton stated in the release.

The Perry Hall location is the first of several new planned locations. Ten more are expected to open across the region within the next 18 months, manager Ugaunda Prukopova told Patch in October.

"We're in expansion mode," she said.

The first Mission BBQ opened in Glen Burnie on Sept. 11, 2011—the 10th anniversary of 9/11—and kicked off a week of charitable events for the Wounded Warrior Project and the USO. It was founded by former Under Armour executive Bill Kraus and former Outback Steakhouse executive Steve Newton.

Gaining immediate popularity, Baltimore Magazine named it the best barbecue in Baltimore last month. The menu features 27 items and all of the meats are dry rubbed and smoked daily, according to kitchen manager Mark Hutchins.

The Perry Hall location began hiring about 45 positions in October, ranging from line cooks to a marketing coordinator. Those interested may visit a trailer in the shopping center's parking lot, next to Weis Markets.

"We want to make sure it's community based," Prukopova said.

I sampled about 9 different items from their Anne Arundel County location on Sunday and can tell you that the items were nothing short of spectacular.

It looks like they are building an outside eating area. Is that part of the plan?

Looks like another great addition to Perry Hall, although I was REALLY-REALLY hoping for another drugstore ( LOL ). I think I'm getting hungry !!

Stopping to play the National Anthem every day at noon? Sounds kind of hokey.

Yes. Patio seating for approx 40, just like the Glen Burnie location

Yeah, playing the national anthem to honor veterans of wars is kind of hokey, isn't it?

I love southern BBQ. Mission BBQ will be competition for Andy Nelson in Cockeysville. It will be a hard decision since my family loves both places. Of course, we don't have to travel thru the tunnel to get to Mission, so that is a plus.
