Readers' Choice: Cannella's Wins Perry Hall's Best Sandwiches

Readers chose their favorite spot for sandwiches in Perry Hall.

UPDATE (2:40 p.m., March 30)—It was one tight race for the maker of Perry Hall's best sandwiches. Nearly 680 readers chimed in to tell us who puts the best stuff between bread in Perry Hall.

And the winner is ...

at 9611 Belair Rd. with 250 votes.

at 9653 Belair Rd. came in a close second with 210 votes and at 8615 Ridgelys Choice Dr. showed a strong third place with 156 votes.

Let's face it, with all of these great local options, the real winners here are Perry Hall's sandwich lovers.

Readers praised for its service and flavor.

Patch user wrote under the contest:

Cannellas is the best deli I have ever been to. They are friendly have great food and pasta salads and care about their customers. I wish they were open on Sunday.

Patch user wrote under the business listing:

Great food, good service. I love this family as if it were my own!

Owner Domenic Cannella attributes the win to his business' creative menu and high quality ingredients.

"Sandwiches really are my passion. I spend countless hours working on items, even researching Italian history for the names," Cannella said.

"We have a passion for excellent gourmet sandwiches that you really can't get at a chain or a pizza shop," he said.

Congratulations !

Next week we're looking for Perry Hall's best places to get help with your taxes.

UPDATE (9 a.m., March 30)—Voting is now closed. We're counting up the results! Watch to find out the winner at noon today.

---

UPDATE (5 a.m., March 26)—Try walking a mile in Perry Hall without hitting a sandwich shop. Seriously, try it. Let us know how it goes.

Even the local grocery stores and 7-Elevens are prepared to slap something between bread for you, although, that's not exactly what we had in mind. We're looking for a sandwich (no, not a burger) that takes itself a little more seriously—a made-to-order, mouth-watering, whole-is-more-than-the-sum-of-its-parts monstrosity of flavor.

Where's the best place in Perry Hall to buy such things? You tell us. This week's poll runs only until Friday at 9 a.m.

If your favorite spot got left off our list, please let us know in the comments. And be sure to comment, as well, about which menu item best tickles your taste buds.

  • at 9611 Belair Rd.
  • at 8615 Ridgelys Choice Dr.
  • at 8601 Honeygo Blvd.
  • at 9653 Belair Rd.
  • at 8867 Belair Rd.
  • at 4351 Ebenezer Rd.
  • at 5004 Honeygo Center Dr., 9641 Belair Rd., 8651 Belair Rd.
  • at 9117 Belair Rd.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results, positive comments below and in reviews on each of the businesses' Patch Places directory listings (you can reach them by clicking on the businesses above).

Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

Ridgely's Choice has the best cheese steak! Actually, you will never be disappointed with anything off of their menu. Not only is their food delicious but you can't beat their prices or their portions! Everyone is friendly and they remember every face that comes in. They do a great job catering as well. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Ridgely's Choice is who I voted for!! My favorite item on the menu is the Cheese Burger its the best around and its reasonably priced, if you don't believe me you have to go and try it for yourself. Also, their rare roast beef is fantastic. I highly recommend Ridgely's Choice.

Cannella's Italian Deli is by far the best.
Dave March 29, 2012 at 03:01 pm
I am a tough culinary critique. I think something that should be taken into consideration is authenticity. Cannella's concepts are true and closest to the roots. As for Toscana's, it has been there a while and yes Cannella's used to be in that location. Hence, the strength and fantastic culinary experiences you get from Cannella's. Even it's successors still strive on the foundation Cannella's re poured from the original Cub Hill Deli. Good luck to all. Happy Eating.
Tessa March 29, 2012 at 03:52 pm
Add Serpico's to the list!! Their foccacia sandwiches are seriously the best. Very fresh ingredients and HUGE. Also great cheese steaks and subs. Love that place.

I wish Cannella's would have more locations! They have the best & unique subs. Their lasagna is out of this world . I order for it for all my parties!!.
Honeygo Hal March 31, 2012 at 02:06 pm
My wife & I went to Cannella's based on their showing in the poll, and had a great meal. MD crab soup, a classic cheese steak, and the eggplant parmesan. The cheese steak was really good. My wife prefers the EP at Double T, but she appreciated how Cannella's prepared it. Add to that, it is close to home. We will definitely be back for more!
Pat Crum March 31, 2012 at 05:20 pm
Cannella's is the best by far. They used to be right down the road from us and we still miss them being there. Dominic catered our 50th Wedding Anniversary party. The food was outstanding and the salads delicious. Dominic and his staff are the best. Congratulations on winning.

My sister-in-law actually played with my nephew too Tim. Unlike EVERY OTHER single parent that wasRead More there. However, you can't tie your child to you. They came there to play. Bullies move very quick. When my nephew fell and was visibily scared, not a single parent except for one even noticed. Nobody from the library was in site. You are right that if parents were required to pay attention to their children then there would not be an opportunities for bullies because the parents of those bullies would be watching them also. When the group came from a religious school in Pikesville this is exactly what happened. All the parents stayed with their kids. All other parents, with little exception stayed in a waiting room talking amongst themselves paying little attention to their children. My nephew has been to all kinds of playgrounds and never been attacked by older kids before. Next time, if my nephew is attacked by an older child I will urge my brother to call the police and press charges against the parent. However, irreponsible Storyville need not worry -- won't be back there. Just wish our tax dollars weren't supporting this.
Gregg Roberts April 25, 2013 at 07:09 am
Let me put this in more practical terms. 1. My sister-in-law suggests that the bully seemed about 8Read More years old and probably shouldn't have been left at Storyville to begin with. There is no ID system at Storyville for childs age. 2. The bully caused various kinds of mayhem. Knocking down things, shouting, etc. No one from the library is actually in Storyville so there was no disciplinary action taken such as removing the child. 3. Parents should not view Storyville as a babysitter and not be allowed to congregate in the waiting area, leaving their children to play alone. 4. Items that could be used to cause serious injury should be removed from Storyville. 5. Cameras. If an 8 year old hits a 3 year old at Storyville where parents are suppose to be watching their children, I want proof for a court case. Yes, it's a shame it can't just be a pleasant place to take your kids but it isn't. It is filled with unrully children and uninterested parents. A child SHOULD NEVER leave a library with two bruises across his face EVER.
BobBaft June 19, 2013 at 10:12 am
Sounds like your sister in law needs to grow a brain. If an 8 year old is running around like aRead More maniac, grab your child and GO FIND an employee to wage a complaint and get the kid booted. My daughter is 6 and went a couple weeks ago and was not permitted beyond the gate with the other kids in the group. Just because some ghetto monkey jumped the fence one day, don't give this place a black eye for it.
