After 80-Hour Outage, Power Restored to Forge Road Neighborhoods

Mangled power lines and fallen trees caused widespread outages.

Bangert Avenue, between Forge Road and Interstate 95 in Perry Hall, was hit hard by . Multiple power lines were mangled by fallen trees during the worst of the storm early Sunday.

But damages to lines along Bangert impacted far more than surrounding homes, many of which were built in the 1950s, according to state property records.

Residents of a handful of newer communities, including many in the Glenside Farms neighborhood along Perry Farms Drive lost electrical power for more than 80 hours.

One of them was Amy Fox, a mother of five, who lost electricity around 7:30 a.m. Sunday and regained it at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"It's great; it's wonderful. I feel back to normal," Fox said. "The first thing I did was turn off the generator."

Still, other Perry Hall residents into Wednesday evening.

“BGE recognizes the extreme frustration of many of its customers whose service has not been restored and is attempting to contact some of these customers via automated telephone message, informing them of our plans to be in their communities today,” said Jeannette M. Mills, a Baltimore Gas and Electric Company senior vice president in a Wednesday morning press release.

About 80 percent of customers who lost electrical service during Irene have been restored, the press release stated.

Deborah Zink who lives on Pepper Hill Road off lost power at 10:50 p.m. Saturday. But Zink said she was told by a BGE representative that power is not expected to be restored until 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

"This is the same date that everyone ... was given. There seems to be no specific plan," Zink said in an email message to Patch. "I hope that we don't later learn that the majority of restoration resources were first given to downtown Baltimore for the Grand Prix event."

We live on Bangert and were hit hard. Our yard caught fire when the live lines fell from a tree hitting the pole. Thankfully we regained power this afternoon!

We are still out on Hapsburg Court since 7:20 Sunday moerning. Oddly enough, most of our court only lost power for about 2 hours, but the block I am on and one of the blocks that backs to Seven courts drive are still without power. I am a licenxzed child care provider that has not been able to open all week due to the power outage. But truth be told, and as inconvenient as this situation is, there are others out there that have much worse situations.
