After the old tree that served as the annual Christmas tree in Perry Hall became diseased, it was removed and recycled, leaving the community without a tree for decorating.

So when Baltimore County Councilman David Marks approached Russell Berk, owner of Chapel Hills Farm and Nursery, about replacing the tree, the local farmer gladly helped.

"I was happy to find a beautiful new tree," Berk said.

He picked a 12-foot Norway Spruce from Frederick County, which has been installed in front of Perry Hall Elementary School.

"Downtown Perry Hall will look more festive than it has for years," Marks said in a statement.

Marks thanked the Downtown Perry Hall Committee, the Perry Hall Improvement Association, the Perry Hall-White Marsh Business Association, Rommel's Ace Hardware and Bill's Seafood for working together to replace the tree and improve the decorations.

"The Perry Hall Improvement Association has held this tree lighting ceremony for 23 years, and this year's event will be as memorable as always," said PHIA president Dennis Robinson.

The lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in front of Perry Hall Elementary School, at 9021 Belair Road.
