McGruff the Crime Dog is used to taking a bite out of crime—but on Saturday, he helped take a bite out of hunger.
Outside the White Marsh Giant grocery store on Honeygo Boulevard, officers from the White Marsh police precinct, joined by McGruff, accepted donations for the Eastern Regional Family Shelter and needy families "adopted" by the precinct.
"The response has been great. People are coming right up to us asking how they help," said Sgt. Angela Mickle of the White Marsh precinct's Community Outreach Unit.
"Giant has been great, they're making announcements in the store," added Officer Caitlyn Twiss.
