Talk About It: Fall So Hard University?

The Ravens lost in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday. Join other Patch readers to talk about it.

I had one field goal attempt in .

It was from 33 yards at the old Edgewood High School field.

I nailed it.

That being said, I'm fairly sure I couldn't hit a 32-yard kick in the opposing stadium with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. So I won't cast judgment against Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff.

I also won't blame Lee Evans—he of four regular season catches—for dropping the pass that certainly would have sent the Ravens to Indianapolis.

As a former sports reporter, I learned to watch games analytically, and—often to the frustration of my wife—very objectively. But Sunday night, I was in shock. I shared the same look of dismay that the Ravens players did on the sideline—you know, that jaw-dropping shock that you saw on the faces of the players who watched it all come crashing down so fast.

The Ravens have lost playoff games in heartbreaking fashion before. But they earned and deserved those losses.

This time around, I felt the Ravens were the best team on the field, and in looking over the NFC Championship, they may have been the best overall team in the postseason.

They deserved to win.

I agree completely.

I'd blame Lee Evans. That was terrible presence on that catch. Dude was still catching as if he had to turn it up field. All he had to do was secure the ball and drop. Even if Moore's arm was in there too. Another thought - on that field goal miss. It seemed Cundiff didn't even hit the field until 12 seconds left. What was the deal there? He looked rushed when I saw replays and didn't even notice the play clock until I saw it on NFL network last night. Why didn't Harbaugh call a timeout there? Unless he didn't actually think his kicker wasn't rushed. I dunno.

Exactly, Tim. Why is Lee Evans turning around? Catch, secure, drop, Indy. This is basic football - when you are in the end zone, you simply catch the ball.

Re: Cundiff sprinting in—I noticed that, too. Not sure why he was so slow in getting there. It was certainly odd.

Can anyone say Ray Finkle? The kicker chocked!
