Chemical Irritant Used in Robbery at Parkville Bank: Baltimore County Police

Police said that a man was in custody and charges have not been filed.

Officials are investigating an armed robbery at Parkville's Bay Bank in which a man held up a security guard and made off with his bag Monday morning, prompting the security guard to fire a weapon, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

At 9:30 a.m., a Dunbar security guard  was leaving the bank—located in the 1700 block of East Joppa Road—when he was accosted in the vestibule by a man armed with a chemical irritant, police said.

After a physical struggle outside the bank, the suspect took a bag from the guard, according to the report.

The guard fired one shot in the suspect's direction as he fled, the report stated.

Before 10 a.m., the Baltimore County Police Department said it had a man in custody. It reported later that officials were continuing to question the individual Monday afternoon. Charges have not been filed, police said, and the investigation is ongoing.

It was not immediately available whether anyone was injured.
