UPDATE: Joppa Man Charged After Alleged Cannibalism, Murder

Alexander Kinyua had been in jail just two days before Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie was reported missing from the residence the two men shared.

UPDATE (2:30 p.m., May 31)—A 21-year-old Joppatowne man was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree murder after an alleged case of cannibalism and decapitation of a man who had been missing since Friday.

Alexander Kinyua, 21, of 535 Terrapin Terrace in Joppatowne, has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault, according to a press release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday night.

According to charging documents, Kinyua—a Morgan State University student—allegedly told detectives that he killed Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, cut him up with a knife then ate part of the dead man's heart and brain before hiding body parts in his basement.

Kinyua was being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center Thursday afternoon following a bail review hearing in Harford County District Court.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said Agyei-Kodie, who also lived at 535 Terrapin Terrace, was reported missing on Friday.

Agyei-Kodie, 37, was described last week as being 5-foot-6, 170 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a tribal scar on his left cheek, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office had said he was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on May 25 near his home wearing jogging attire—a white T-shirt and blue shorts—with no wallet, phone or keys.

Detectives checked local hospitals and detention facilities as well as the missing man’s acquaintances with no results.

On Tuesday, detectives contacted the residents at the Terrapin Terrace home who said they hadn’t seen Agyei-Kodie. That night, Alexander Kinyua's father, Antony Kinyua, called a detective to let him know his other son, Jarrod Kinyua, found what looked like human remains in the basement of the home, according to charging documents.

Jarrod Kinyua told police he went into the laundry room and saw a blanket on top of a box. He said when he took off the blanket he saw two tins, which he opened.

Jarrod Kinyua told police he found what looked like a human head and two human hands inside the tins, according to charging documents.

He said he then confronted his brother, Alex Kinyua, who said the remains belonged to an animal, charging documents state.

Jarrod Kinyua then brought his dad down to the basement where they found Alex Kinyua cleaning the containers.

On Wednesday morning Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search and seizure warrant at 535 Terrapin Terrace and discovered "partial human remains in the residence and in a dumpster located off of Trimble Road," the press released stated.

"While positive identification of the human remains must be confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, investigators have strong suspicions that the remains are those of the missing person, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie," the press released stated.

Charging documents state police found a human head and two human hands in the house. From there, Alex Kinyua directed investigators to a dumpster outside the Town Baptist Church on Trimble Road where they found more remains.

According to charging documents, Alex Kinyua told police he allegedly killed Agyei-Kodie by cutting him up with a knife then, once he was dead, ingested parts of the dead man’s heart and brain.

It is unclear what relationship the men had other than sharing the Terrapin Terrace residence. Online court records indicate that Kinyua had been released from a Baltimore City jail on $220,000 bail May 23, two days before Agyei-Kodie was reported missing.

Kinyua was released after having been arrested on May 20 on charges of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment for a May 19 incident, according to online records. A preliminary hearing in that case is scheduled for June 19.

The May 19 case allegedly involved the attack on a fellow Morgan State University student, according to an article in The Baltimore Sun.

Kinyua allegedly hit a student with baseball bat then ran into nearby woods, according to the same Baltimore Sun story.

In the days leading up to his arrest, Kinyua allegedly posted bizarre messages on Facebook including coded messages that lead to messages elsewhere on the Internet, according to The Baltimore Sun.

One of the messages discusses school shootings, “death cults” and "destruction of the black family," according to The Baltimore Sun.
