Police are investigating the Monday evening robbery in the Perry Hall Boulevard parking lot.

UPDATE (Oct. 18, 2:20 p.m.)—Alleged White Marsh Robber Arrested in Stolen Car - http://patch.com/A-yKB5

Police responded to White Marsh Mall on Monday evening for a reported armed robbery.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 15, a 20-year-old man was walking toward his vehicle in the 8200 block of Perry Hall Boulevard when another man in his 20s approached him and started making conversation, according to a police report.

When they reached the center of the parking lot, two additional men in their 20s approached the victim. Together, the three men struck the victim with their fists and knocked him to the ground. As the victim returned to his feet, one of the men held a knife to his throat. The other men then removed the victim's wallet, which held $80. They removed $60 from the wallet and returned the wallet and $20 to the victim before driving away from the scene, the police report showed.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and police are following possible leads, according to Capt. Michael Balog of the White Marsh police precinct.

No but I can and It will make me feel better !!!!!

Seriously, if you aren't safe in front of a precinct, where are you safe?
Tim October 16, 2012 at 07:56 PM
Something else should be mentioned here. People, have situational awareness when you are out, especially at night when visibility in general is lower. Keep your eyes moving. First, if you're nervous about a situation you're in, look for potential issues when you are out after dark. 99.9% of the time your fears will be wrong, but there's alwyas that ultra slim chance you'll be right. Be aware of your surroundings!! Get off your freakin cell phones like a zombie. Criminals find people like you to be easy prey because you allow yourself to be. If someone I didn't know approached me to 'make conversation' the LAST thing I'd do is continue walking AWAY from other people and towards my car. It was 7:30ish PM, there were people in the general vicinity of the mall, but this young victim didn't understand what to do. I'm just glad he's okay and only out a few bucks.

Finally, folks can talk about gun rights all you want, but the bottom line is, avoiding trouble is the best course of action. Shooting someone in self defense has serious ramifications, even if not ultimately criminal in nature.
Penny October 16, 2012 at 08:15 PM
How about online shopping, and forget the Mall.
Steve October 16, 2012 at 08:28 PM
General Growth Properties forbids carrying firearms on every one of their 200 properties across the country . It still wouldn't do you any good.
Mike M. October 16, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Why are people so shocked at this crime at the mall? Because its "Perry Hall"... Ignorant criminals don't give a hoot when or where. Wake up people and know your surrounding and watch out for people that act suspicious.

Something fishy bout that story though. The guy had $80 in his wallet. They took $ 60 and left the wallet and $ 20? I think the dudes girlfriend or parents gave him 80 bucks to buy something. He bought a video game for 60 instead, and came up with this story. Unless there are witnesses (at 730 there should have been someone around) I'm having trouble believing it
Other Tim October 16, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Pretty sure they wouldn't like people being stabbed on their properties also. They may not allow concealed weapons, but they also apparently don't check.
AzureSkye October 16, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Excellent question ! Seems to me..that should be checked out. Also, has anybody noticed the security guards at the Mall as of late ?? Next time you dare to go...just check them out....it's worth a chuckle !
Tim October 17, 2012 at 04:42 AM
They don't give a hoot, all they have to do is hop on the bus line, wheeee!

Once again regarding this issue - the good guys follow the rules and the bad guys don't. Gun laws protect the bad guys. If these animals/cowards thought for a second this guy might be packing, I'm guessing they wouldn't be so bold and we would have three less thugs on the street instead of one more victim. As for the rent-a-cops at the mall, total joke. Do your shopping during day time or online.
William Lutostanski Jr October 17, 2012 at 01:26 PM
Do they forbid carrying knives also ?
Paul Storck October 17, 2012 at 01:56 PM
Yes fishy. Why would someone that holds a knife to another person's neck, leave $20 bucks behind.
Tim October 17, 2012 at 02:29 PM
This is a fair point. Still, the situational awareness commentary above from both Tim B and myself is stuff everyone should read and implement. You don't need martial arts or a weapon to avoid being a victim in most cases (although it helps in a desperate pinch). You also don't need to stay locked in your house either.

Good luck getting the right to defend yourself in the People's Republic of Maryland.
Bill Howard October 17, 2012 at 04:46 PM
@Steve But if he we had the law maybe some pistol packing granny could step in to save him.

In saying that I really don't buy into this BS story, I must say that I find it quite amusing and must say that we here in Perry Hall and White Marsh have the most considerate thieves here in town. The sheer thoughtfulness of these men to knock this gentleman down while holding a knife to his throat while they rob him of his money and than return the wallet along with $ 20.00 only shows true compassion. Evidently they felt that they should show a little remorse so he wouldn't feel totally violated.

QUESTION: How do you stop the primitive, monkey brained animals, (I don't care what their skin color is), from committing violent crimes. ANSWER: Arrest them, prosecute them, and if convicted, throw them in prison, not jail. Most judges will say "Our jails are already filled". I say "That's not your problem, and that's why I say prison, not jail. Sentence them to prison and let O'Malley and the politicians figure out how to make room for them”
Eric Martin October 17, 2012 at 09:52 PM
Something very fishy about that story. Perhaps he only owed $60 for the drugs?
Jan October 17, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Hum, maybe a basic math question, “If you rob a man that has $80 in his wallet, how much does each of the three robbers get?” Guess the wallet had only $20s or $10s and $20 each was quick way to do it.

My husband and I both have been approached by questionable people, asking for cash, over the past couple of years. One followed us to our car one evening and wouldn't leave. I really thought we were going to be robbed that night. My husband started to dial 911 on his cell phone and the guy left. A couple of months ago, a woman approached me at the medical center on Sandpiper Circle and wanted me to taker her downtown. She actually approached my car door. I locked my car, and backed away toward the building. Then she said she wanted cash. Luckily, she backed off and left. I immediately went to the Precinct across the street, and they didn't know where Sandpiper Circle was. Then they told me that things like that don't happen at the mall. I haven't been back to White Marsh Mall to shop since then. And, this most recent incident just further seals the deal for me. I'm not going there anymore.

I live 3 minutes fronm the mall but avoid it. You really need to watch everywhere though. Thugs are all around lately.

Yep, and here's another shining example of the quality of humanity in the fine city of Baltimore: http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2012/10/17/19-year-old-woman-attacked-on-mta-bus/
AmericanMarine October 18, 2012 at 02:08 PM
Perhaps carrying a legal sized knife in plain view would be somewhat of a deterent. What is the legal size. I had combat knife training in the Marine Corps. In Vietnam we always had discussions as to being shot or stabbed - 80% would rather be shot than stabbed. Seriously cameras like they have at Security Mall could be part of the answer. However the real answer is getting the job machine going in America and offer free relevant training for those who are not equipped to compete in the job market. With no jobs available people will take money and possessions from those that have them. Sort of wealth redistribution - sound familiar? Many Americans need to wake up and understand that is what the Federal government is doing in America right now and soon the results will be a failed economy more servere that the Great Depression and it could start as early as next year and continue for 3-5 years. Wake up America we are being robbed without violence and with a engaging smile but robbed none the less.

If the law is passed GGP cannot control it. and you better believe out there I would definetly be packing! Better to face a jury of 12 then be carried by 6 Dave

AM 4" blade is the legal limit

If I carried and used my gun on a robber/molester I would have no guilt about it only that I was safe and he was hurting. But in this state ony the bad guys carry and use it by the way what did these guys look like? short with red hair and green skin tone!!!!? don't think so
Sam Battle October 18, 2012 at 08:34 PM
Susan Funny part of your statement u stated usage on Molester...then most likely you would be shooting a relative or close friend as 99% of rapes of this kind is by those people....but u forgot to mention it may be okay for someone to break into your home / deal your kids drugs / beat you around / attempt to kill you..man you have a short Kill list...
