Police are crediting a woman's fast reaction and concerned community members with stopping a carjacking in White Marsh Monday evening.
At about 6:26 p.m. on Nov. 12, outside Five Guys in the 5200 block of Campbell Boulevard, a man pulled a woman out of her vehicle with her purse. He implied that he had a gun and demanded her car keys. The woman's 2-year-old and 4-year-old children were secured in the back seat, according to a police report.
The woman refused to give the man her keys and started yelling. Some concerned community members started gathering around her vehicle. The man then ran away, according to Lt. David Naimaster of the White Marsh police precinct.
Police do not believe the man knew there were children in the back of the car when he attempted the carjacking, Naimaster said.
Police are reviewing video surveilance footage and the incident remains under investigation. The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s, 6-foot 1-inch tall, with a thin build and wearing black pants and a blue plaid shirt, according to a police report.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the White Marsh precinct at 410-887-5000.
