Police: Woman, Children Nearly Carjacked in White Marsh

A man attempted to take a woman's purse and keys outside Five Guys on Campbell Boulevard.

Police are crediting a woman's fast reaction and concerned community members with stopping a carjacking in White Marsh Monday evening.

At about 6:26 p.m. on Nov. 12, outside Five Guys in the 5200 block of Campbell Boulevard, a man pulled a woman out of her vehicle with her purse. He implied that he had a gun and demanded her car keys. The woman's 2-year-old and 4-year-old children were secured in the back seat, according to a police report.

The woman refused to give the man her keys and started yelling. Some concerned community members started gathering around her vehicle. The man then ran away, according to Lt. David Naimaster of the White Marsh police precinct.

Police do not believe the man knew there were children in the back of the car when he attempted the carjacking, Naimaster said.

Police are reviewing video surveilance footage and the incident remains under investigation. The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s, 6-foot 1-inch tall, with a thin build and wearing black pants and a blue plaid shirt, according to a police report.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the White Marsh precinct at 410-887-5000.

To all of you who believe in the "Right To Carry"....let me put this in perspective. Maryland is the East Coast " California "....let that sink in. Maryland will NEVER be a "Shall Carry" state........N-E-V-E-R!!!!! I suggest you "Carry" Bear Spray!! Nasty stuff. Personally, I carry Bear Spray and a folding knife. I refuse to be a victim.

Not only is Wayne HAPPY...but he is also very FACTUAL. And the facts speak for themselves. And if you do not agree with Happy Wayne...just watch the morning news and see how many more violent acts are commited by "black" men. Our state is a big "giveitaway" mess.

Please stop your racist hate. Anybody can find random crime and attribute it to race. None of these are yeas ago and all committed by Caucasians. Lets stop hating and address real issues, not phantom correlations that don't exist November 8: Armed Robbery - Gun, 11600 block of Philadelphia Road, 21162 At 4:02 a.m., a man pointed a gun at a 7-11 employee and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot after taking the money. The suspect is a white male, 42 to 50 years old, 5'10", and 210 pounds. October 29: Commercial Burglary, 8300 block of Pulaski Highway, 21237 At 10:31 p.m., two suspects removed the front window of the Crown Gas station. Cartons of cigarettes and coins were taken. Both suspects are white males, 5'6", 150 pounds, with medium builds. On October 31, Jordan Snyder, 19, of the 3200 block of East Joppa Road, 21234, was arrested for the robbery of an 88-year-old woman. The suspect approached the victim as she exited her vehicle in the parking lot of the Walgreens in 9600 block of Harford Road, grabbed her wallet, and shoved her to the ground. Detectives in the area saw the suspect fleeing from the scene, and he was arrested nearby Fight at Flea Market in Precinct 12/North Point Matthew Charles Long, 31, of the 800 block of Olmstead Road, was extradited from Oklahoma yesterday. He is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of his grandparents. They are Vaughn George Pepper, 87; and Marjorie Marie Pepper.

Do the buses run all day and night? Maybe they should limit the bus schedules to commuter times only. Maybe 6am to 6 or 7pm. Maybe that would help with the night time crime. I went to the avenue a few years ago to see a movie with family. The mobs of foul mouthed people loitering in that area has kept me from returning. I agree that the breakdown of the family unit has caused many of these issues. But what can be done about it? As long as the government rewards people for negative behavior, these issues will only get worse. Social Security payments and other entitlements are given to drug addicts because they are unable or unwilling to work. Many unmarried women have children in order to increase the amount of government assistance. Where do we draw the line on entitlements?

More black crime. I am not a racist but it seems more and more like the crime here is done by black people both male and femaile. We do need to shut down the public transportation or have a video camera inside buses that can see the faces of everyone who enters. We need to track them so if they commit a crime we can find them easier. Dude is lucky i was not there because he would never had gotten away. Shoot first ask questions later. If you don't like my comment to bad.

I also believe that a lot of the crime in this area increased when 43 was opened up. The hard working people of the Essex/Middle River area have seen their neighborhoods overtaken by thugs and addicts over the past 15-20 years. I was truly concerned when 43 was opened up because I knew it would become an easy access, for the thugs, into the Perry Hall/White Marsh area. And, I believe that fear has come to life. Look to the East, and look to the South. That is our future in just a very short time.
Patricia Single November 17, 2012 at 08:23 PM
We really need to track these thugs down and then do something. Not just slap their hands and let them go. I am sick of this crime in our area....
Marty Warren November 17, 2012 at 08:41 PM
You can't blame public transportation for anything. In my eyes of you use the bus you are more motivated than alot of people =============== Perhaps they are more motivated to terrorize women and children
Paul Amirault November 17, 2012 at 09:42 PM
Marty, have you been avoiding me? I think we have a wager to settle?

I am so Thankful to hear that on watchers heard her yelling and came to her aid because we could be reading a total different story. I am very happy all are safe & well.

I visit and shop quite a lot in Delaware around Rehoboth Beach and have NEVER felt afraid. I have even left my car unlocked (by mistake) full of purchases and never had anything stolen. Yet, I am always looking over my shoulder and feel uneasy when I shop in Baltimore County or when I rarely go into Baltimore City. Truth be told, crime is UP in Baltimore County and so are murders. I feel in 10 years, this side of Baltimore County will be as bad as Randallstown. I am looking to leave Md because I feel nothing is going to change with the political climate in Md. I have given up.
Parkvillehoney November 17, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Chris, you are way off base. There are many charitable organizations that will help a family INSTEAD of going out and committing a crime. My family grew up very poor and depended on family members for food and used clothing. We also worked from 15 years old to this day. We also took a Baltimore City bus to school and to our jobs. NOBODY in my family ever committed a crime. Crime is an easy way to get what you want and should punished by jail. No if and or but!

The People's Republic of Maryland learned from there counterparts in Red China. (no right to defend yourself)
Bill Howard November 18, 2012 at 02:29 AM
Parkvillehoney, You are not alone. Many people feel the same way as you. We have a state government that spends 3 months a year in Annapolis having parties and whoring around and passing more measures to take our rights and extort our money while protecting the criminals. This one party state is oppressive.
Heather November 18, 2012 at 03:19 AM
Seems like most crimes are committed by males. We should run all of the men out of the county, and leave the women alone to shop and dine in peace. Get real people. Crime happens EVERYWHERE! Bad people are EVERYWHERE! The world is not the same place we grew up in. Get over it. Be vigilant, and know what to do when something does happen, like the woman in the story.
Smart Guy November 18, 2012 at 03:20 AM
Not so happy Wayne, I'll spend some time to indulge your request of hearing crimes committed by Caucasians at WMM & Mall. In addition I've included crimes reported on this patch committed by Caucasians below I'm glad you consider yourself educated and hold credentials so amazing that I've never heard of a school that offers 'Doctorates in Sciences' Every school I've ever attended offered 'Doctorates of Science', but I'll spare additional accusations that may challenge your intellect. Since you are so educated, the first thing you should know is that correlation is not equal to causation. There is not a 'entitlement culture' in any American household. Nobody teaches their child to expect anything but an equal opportunity. It is clearly racist to presume that 'the black culture' is broken and cast dispersions on an entire culture no matter what you believe.

Heather, Thank you!! I couldn't agree with you more. Not about Black, White, Asian, or Other. It's about criminals that are in every community in the world. Be vigilant at all times and help your neighbor when they need help, like the hero citizens in this story

Hey Smart Guy...what country are YOU living in??? If you feel so safe, take your children to White Marsh Mall on a Saturday evening...or better yet, go downtown and walk around at night and see how safe you feel. And about all parents raising their children to live a good life and not expect handouts...again...what country are YOU living in? Sounds like you wear rose colored glasses.
Smart Guy November 18, 2012 at 01:34 PM
teech...I feel for you since you can't leave your house for fear of random crime. Like Heather indicated crime does not have a race, color, sex, or location. I don't go around anywhere thinking I WILL be the victim of a crime. I actually have no problem walking around and supporting our local businesses any time of day or night that they are open. We actually went downtown to eat yesterday at Chazz and felt safe enough to walk around the neighborhood and believe it or not nothing happened. I don't know what country you live in, but in the country I've given service to and love with all my heart; parents teach their children they are owed nothing but an opportunity. Parents teach that education is the key to unlocking opportunity. Parents hope that their children will be more successful than themselves. This bond of teaching children these lessons stretches across all socioeconomic sectors and races. I'm sorry that you appear to know or have heard of stories of parents that teach differently. For every one story of bad parenting, there are thousands of parents that teach the lessons above. Please open you mind and realize that bad people are in smaller numbers than you think and most people just want to live their lives and support their families. Just like you and I do.
teech November 18, 2012 at 05:13 PM
Smart guy....I speak from experience having been an educator...hence the name "teech". I taught in Baltimore County for almost 30 years and I agree that many parents do teach their children to respect education. But too many do not. The statistics support this factually. Check the high school drop out rate in the city. Check the food stamp program, welfare recipients, crime rate etc. in the city. And going to Chazz downtown does not give a true indication of city life or your bravery. Why don't you go take your family on a walk through Leakin Park (they have nice new trails there), night or day and see how safe you are. (You may end up in Loudon Park.) Parents "teach by example". And their examples demonstrate a life of no morals, blame the other guy, government handouts and the like. In fact, just drive through the city and observe the trashy neighborhoods. I live in America, and love this country as much as you do. BUT America has and continues to change. And we are well on the way to socialism where we are controlled by the gov't. But that is another sad, dangerous issue. And by the way...I too support my local business and actually do go out of my home on occasion. I wear my body armour covered of course by my bio-hazard suit. Wake up and take off your rose colored specs. CHAZZ.....really.....safe.......hahahahahahahahahaha!
Karen November 19, 2012 at 02:35 PM
The entitlements .... Have made it ok to provide no correction for bad behavior, no disincentive to make babies that you teach nothing to involving everything from morality, respect for human life , integrity, work ethic and the list goes on. If the powers that be say it is "unethical" to pass judgement on those who are running "baby farms" to get more in their check, then all I can say is, they don't care anything about kids. The person who tried to hijack a car was only a short time ago a little kid. He wasn't born to be a criminal, he had plenty to eat growing up, probably a home , but what he didn't have was any sort if guidance in life. That's what this wonderful world of entitlements has done. Kept people's lives in squalor, maybe not in the hungry and cold sense, but in having any meaning or purpose or contributing one good thing to society. This person will most certainly be a "drain" on more taxpayer resources as we pay for his defense or pay for his rehab or methadone for the rest if his life. I work at a job where I can say for sure if there are not changes this whole area will be over run by this sort of criminal activity.

If everyone is allowed to carry a firearm, not just the bad guys, then the bad guys won't know who has one....and will be less likely to try sh*t like this....

I have lived in white marsh my entire life and it's sad how much it has changed in the past 10-15 years. it's gone down hill so much. the mall is trashy and the people are just not as nice as they used to be. it used to be that white marsh was more middle class then it is now. and if you tell people your from white marsh they act as if your white trash. its so sad. do away with the bus stops because i honestly agree that those are part of the problem. it allows people from the city, edgewood and other places to come whenever they please. I used to go to the mall at least once a week. i tend to only go to the harford mall now. makes me feel safer especially being a female in my 20's

In 24 other states a woman would be given the means to defend herself. maryland feels it is better for women to be robbed, raped and killed rather than free.
