I would hate to see the mall surrendered and have it face the same decline as Golden Ring and Hunt Valley, but at this rate with the trouble makers, that's probably what's going to happen unless the Balto Co Police and the Chamber of Commerce intervenes and make some serious decisions and changes. My wife and I have found other places to shop besides White Marsh Mall; they are safer and less crowded. As for the Avenue (I really love that place, more than White Marsh Mall), my wife and I go either in the afternoon or early evening. Plus we are aware of our surroundings and people around us in the parking lot. I understand your position of pushing back and I wish you well, but please be careful. Patrick

Where are all these parents, responsible guardians when these thugs are hanging around the malls, avenues, etc.. Make them, (parents) take the heat, pay the punishment, time / fines /restitution for what their brats do.

Where have you been? ;-) Those irresponsible "parents" and "guardians" swear their little darlins' don't do those kind of things. Nothing like a parent of a delinquent telling the police or judge that their son or daughter would never do anything wrong. Funny thing, the kid has a rap sheet about a mile long. Patrick

Besides the mile long rap sheet, nowadays their little darlins' are all being caught on store, parking lot, police and even their own friend's video cameras, that they are dumb enough to post.

Dominic you are so right!! I will never go to the mall or the Avenue on a Friday or Saturday night. There are young groups of kids which are unruly, screaming loud profanity at one another, and pushing one another. They walk in such large groups, they take up the entire walkway. When I go out, I want a positive and safe experience.

With an attitide like that, it is up to the good responsible citizens to take matters into their own hands. Maybe if a few robbers were bumped off, there would be less crime. To me a dead criminal is a good criminal.

Agree fully with you! That is were the majority of criminal element come in from at White Marsh Mall and Avenue. I am not super biased person, but the facts are the facts. Friday and Saturday nights over there nowadays looks like Mondawmin Mall and is easily becoming as dangerous.
I have lived here for 23 years and have seen a massive surge in crime and inner city thuggery since 2004-5 in White Marsh Mall and the Avenue. Just when the bus routes were expanded. The again the surge in rent controlled town homes and section 8 tenants in Burnam Woods Apartments, the Crossings at White Marsh and South Field Apartments has also advanced the issues big time. Just telling it as it 100% is.

In my neighborhood in Perry Hall, all of my neighbors have noticed small groups of teen black kids wandering around in my neighborhood late at night (like from 10pm - 4am). We know all of our neighbors and families, these kids are obviously not from our this community. Plus we have had a spike in car breakin's, vandalism, littering, and plain vagrancy. Not that our streets are or should be restricted to a particular race, or age range; but when these kids have just been wandering around the past 6 or so months, minor crimes have suddenly went up as well. So you can be the judge.

Since we have had a spike in car breakin's, thefts, vandalism and other minor things; my neighborhood blocks have taken it upon ourselves to walk our dogs or take a walk outside every evening now. I have actually agreed myself to walk my dog some good weather evenings around 10pm, 2am and around 6am. My neighbor walks his dog 11pm and 4am. And another neighbor is walking his large dogs midnight and 3am and 5am. We all of course work varying hours at our jobs, but its worth it.
The since April all crime has stopped. In April around 2am I saw three teenage black kids walking up the street looking in car windows. I instantly crossed the street to walk directly at them. They quietly passed me and after about 20 ft. they took off running up the street. Never saw um since.

Ronn, I commend you and your neighbors for the COP. My concern is you being on the street between 11PM-6AM. If a thief has a gun, you could be attacked. It also concerns me that teenagers are on the street at 2AM. Where are the parents?? What responsible parent allows their kids out at 2AM! I believe a lot of problems stem from the subsidized rent in the Perry Hall apartments. These low income families have come out of the inner city and many don't know how to exist in a civilized family oriented community. There subsidized renters should have mandatory coaching and classes on responsible behavior; before they are given rent vouchers. These classes should teach these families how to live in a community that they probably would never be able to afford if it wasn't subsidized with tax dollars. I would expect some behaviors taught would be to stop littering and dispose of your trash in containers, not the streets, don't let your kids run around unsupervised after 10PM, stop fighting and cursing in the streets, and don't have multiple people (unrelated) in an apartment.

UPDATE (May 31, 1 p.m.)—Baltimore County police have officially downgraded a report of an armed robbery outside White Marsh Mall from May 17. Investigators now believe the incident "did not occur," according to Lt. Ron Brooks of the White Marsh police precinct.

If this was a false report, the person making the false report should be charged. Bad enough actual crimes are committed. We don't need people stating a crime was committed when in fact, it isn't true.

I have gone to the Avenues on a Friday night. I am there about half the Friday afternoons having a couple of drinks and some grub after work/gym.
More times then not, there's not a good reason to go in the actual evening (the movie theather sucks, overpriced, etc). Still, the few times we've really wanted to go somewhere at night (Coldstone, Red Brick, Dan Pablos' etc) We go. Once every few weeks I go and pick up Red Robin. I walk right past/through those kids. It's horrible, I know. They are all eyeing me as their next robbery victim, because...you know...that's all they do. /eyeroll I even checked out the scene one Friday night at 10pm, this was right after there was an uptick in "crime". Half of the problem is folks like you are allowing others to dictate your life to you. Even if they actually aren't - which is fact 95% of the time - folks make perception an altered reality sometimes. I mean seriously, you guys are afraid to come out and enjoy the music series going on now? Fear is something that feeds off of itself. It also can lead to paranoia ;)

Nothing wrong with cautious about where you frequent...the point is that the White Marsh mall is gaining a reputation that everyone is talking about and it ain't good. I agree that one should not shelter themselves from the Mall itself, it's the atmosphere that disturbs most of us. Being a bit older, I've watched the decline of several neighborhoods and business districts that were once thriving areas, Cedonia is a prime example. Cedonia was once a thriving business district, look at it now. I remember when the area started changing, it only took about ten years before everything shut down. Chesaco Plaza and the Kenwood Shopping center are on the dead list now....why? Because the neighborhoods around them are changing....

My husband and I lived in Perry Hall / White Marsh area for 12 years. We too, saw the decline of Our once beloved neighborhood. When my husband retired from the Police Department after 31 years, that was it for us...we decided it was time to make the move to North Carolina. We got out just in time...if we would have stayed there any longer..We would have never been able to sell Our house for what it was worth! The apartments that surrounded Our House where attracting low income families from the city and thats when the trouble started. When they also put in that bus line..thats when I saw the decline of White Marsh Mall. It's really sad and unfortunate to see this happen to the Perry Hall area. As for concealed weapons....We never leave home without ! good luck to all of you. azureskye

AzureSkye, I envy you. I have lived in Parkville close to 40 years. I have seen a decrease in safety and an increase in crime in Parkville. I feel it is directly caused by the "move to opportunity" rent vouchers. These primary single female familes don't know how to co-exist in a responsible and law abiding neighborhood. I have seen loud fighting and profanity outside their homes, throwing trash on streets, and groups of these renters out after midnight still playing loud music. Where is the responsibilty!! My family will be leaving Maryland very soon. It is sad but the liberal politicians, crime and taxes are driving us to another state.

Parkvillehoney, I really feel for you and your family...We left for the very reasons you have listed. I agree with everything you have to say. No one is ever going to take a stand against all of the entitlements that are handed out to people who do not wish to work, allow their children to run the streets and act worse than an animal and they do not want to blend into a nice neighborhood....instead, they want to run it the way they want and people such as us...just have to put up with it ? All I have to say is , if your letting these teenagers scare you from going to the mall or movies at night, there gonna eventually take over the Perry hall area because the adults wanna be scared instead of being brave and standing up for there neighborhood. Then eventually it is gonnna end up empty and bad like eastpoint !!

I want to be honest............ I made a bad statement ( if you scroll up) it was wrong to asume they perp was probably black I was going along with the person who commented before me.......... I for one have learned not to assume any thing thats wrong, its ignorant, its illogical and of course it shows prejudice , Hect we italians never liked it when we were always thought of as gangsters, In evey hollywood movie the bad guy always had an Italian last name........and all americans knew it was not so ,, so I say judge a person by their character not by their skin shade or ethnic background ( gee where have I heard that before? MLK )
