Major improvements are coming to a low-profile wooded area and incomplete trail off Ebenezer Road.
County Councilman David Marks—who has worked with the Perry Hall Improvement Association to improve the 16-acre Indian Rock Park since 2009—announced that the Maryland State Highway Administration's Recreational Trails Program had awarded an additional $30,000 toward the park.
The same program awarded its first last year. Baltimore County also announced a $10,000 match at that time.
Improvements are planned in two phases. First, a 6-foot wide asphalt trail will be added from Ebenezer Road, near Perry Hall High School, to a smaller existing trail. Second, an additional 1,700 feet of trail is planned to connect the perimeter of the high school's campus with the Village of Silver Hall neighborhood.
A community meeting was held in June to review the planned extension with neighbors.
"With this combined funding, I hope that construction of both phases could begin as soon as weather permits," according to Marks.
The grant application process was a joint effort of Marks' office and the office of County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. Members of the local state delegation also supported the grant.
"I thank County Executive Kamenetz for working with me to advance the Indian Rock Park trail, and I thank Senator Klausmeier and Delegates Boteler, Bromwell, and Cluster for their letters of support," Marks stated.
