New Year's Day Closings Around Perry Hall

Watch for widespread closures on New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2013.

Ready for the 2013? Just remember that some services are kicking off the new year with a closure.

On New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, trash and recycling will function as usual, as will county offices, senior centers, health department clinics, the animal shelter, landfills and drop-off centers. Circuit and district courts will be closed, and the Perry Hall Library will close at 5:30 p.m.

On New Year's Day, Jan. 1, government offices, district and circuit courts, health department clinics, libraries, senior centers, landfills and drop-off centers and the county animal shelter will be closed. Those whose trash would normally be collected on Jan. 1, should set it out on Tuesday night to be collected on Jan. 2. Those with recyclables are asked to hold them until the following week, or take them to a drop-off center.

The United States Post Office and area banks are also generally closed.

Considering that I recycle five very large containers every week, the situation has gotten a bit out of control, adding in Christmas recycling as well. For those who had their recycling days shifted TWICE, there should have been a contingency plan. Not everyone has a truck, a vehicle large enough to haul such copious amounts of recycling or the physical ability to do embark on such an endeavor. I do not have the room to store all these items for yet another week, so they are going to have to go out in the trash, which is a shame. Very poor planning for a service I pay for. They could shift the recycling pick up just as easily as they do trash. Is recycling not a priority?

If my truck wasn't in the shop I'd come by and get your recyclables since mine get picked up on Friday morning. You are welcome to drop them off. Reply here if interested. John

True, houses just around the corner from us have a different pick up day for recycling. Is this an option for you ?

Thank you for your kind offer (hockeybuck) and your advice (Tracey) I was able to find an alternative that worked and your suggestions helped a great deal. At least I won't have all this sitting around for week three!
